PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Section Includes:
1. Foundation drainage system complete as indicated and/or described in the specifications and drawings. Furnish all work required including: labor, materials, tools and equipment required to perform the complete installation. Work shall include, but not be limited to: excavation, installation of all drainage system components, backfill, and cleanout extensions.

1.7 STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Protect products from damage during handling and construction operations.

2.1 MATERIALS

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
A. Examine and verify substrate suitability for product installation in the presence of Resident
Engineer/Contracting Officer's Representative (RE/COR).
B. Correct substrate deficiencies.
1. Fill.
2. Level.
C. Keep trenches dry during drainage system installation.
D. Clean interior of pipe before installation.
3.2 INSTALLATION - FOUNDATION DRAINAGE
A. Install products according to manufacturer's instructions and approved submittal drawings.
1. When manufacturer's instructions deviate from specifications, submit proposed resolution for
RE/COR consideration.
B. Trenching, Excavation and Backfilling:
1. Perform trenching, excavation and backfilling according to Section 31 20 00 EARTH
MOVING. Make 1/8 bends changes in direction of drain lines. Use wye fittings at intersections.
C. Bedding:
1. Place and compact graded bedding at bottom trench, minimum 6 inches deep. Rest section firmly through entire length, with recesses formed for bell joints. Fully support pipe lower quadrant with bedding, except bell joint recesses.
D. Pipe Laying:
1. Install PE and PVC Pipe according to ASTM D2321 and ASTM F758.
2. Lay drain lines to grades and alignment, with continuous fall in flow direction and as indicated on Drawings.
3. Place bells ends, face upgrade.
4. Lay drain lines and firmly bed in granular material minimum 3 inches below invert to top of pipe true to grades and alignment, and slope uniformly between elevations shown on foundation drainage drawings. Keep trenches dry until pipe is in place and granular material backfill is completed, 1 foot above top of pipe, unless otherwise noted.
5. Lay perforated pipe, perforations down. Lay plain end pipe, closed joints, held in place with two No. 9 spring steel wire clips at joint or standard clay collars.
6. Foundation Subdrainage: Install pipe pitched down in flow direction, minimum slope 0.5 percent, minimum cover 3 feet, unless otherwise indicated.

7. Underslab subdrainage: Install piping pitched down in flow direction, minimum slope of 0.5 percent.
8. Install gaskets, seals, sleeves, and couplings according to manufacturer's instructions and as follows:
a. PE Joint: ASTM D2737 and AASHTO HB17, Division II, Section 26.4.2.4, “Joint
Properties”.
b. PVC Joint: ASTM D3034 with elastomeric seals gaskets, ASTM D2321.
c. Perforated PVC Joint: ASTM D2729, with loose bell and spigot joints.
9. Install cleanout extensions as indicated on Drawings and as follows:
a. Pre-placed Crypt Field Underdrain Cleanouts: Install as indicated on Drawings and set not to interfere with mowing operations. Provide concrete anchorage for plastic tops. Check drain lines before backfilling. Remove obstructions and recheck lines.
E. Dimpled Drainage Core with filter fabric
1. Furnish and install following the manufacturers recommendations and as indicated.
3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Field Tests: Performed by testing laboratory specified in Section 01 45 29, TESTING
LABORATORY SERVICES.
3.4 PROTECTION
A. Protect pipe from and aggregate cover from damage and displacement until backfilling operation begins.

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 DESCRIPTION
A. This section specifies materials and procedures for the construction of outside underground gas distribution system for liquid propane gas, complete, ready for operation, including cathodic protection if required, all appurtenant structures, and connections to new building structures and to existing gas supply.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Remove and dispose of liquids from existing gas piping according to requirements of authorities having jurisdiction.
B. Deliver pipes and tubes with factory-applied end caps. Maintain end caps through shipping, storage, and handling to prevent pipe end damage and to prevent entrance of dirt, debris, and moisture.
C. Store and handle pipes and tubes having factory-applied protective coatings to avoid damaging coating and protect from direct sunlight.
D. Protect stored PE pipes and valves from direct sunlight.
1.7 COORDINATION
A. Coordinate connection to propane-gas main with Utility Company.
B. Coordinate sizes and locations of concrete bases with actual equipment provided.
C. Coordinate exterior utility lines and connections to building services up to the actual extent of building wall.
1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE:
A. Products Criteria:
1. When two or more units of the same type or class of materials or equipment are required, these units shall be products of one manufacturer.

2. A nameplate bearing manufacturer's name or trademark, including model number, shall be securely affixed in a conspicuous place on equipment. In addition, the model number shall be either cast integrally with equipment, stamped, or otherwise permanently marked on each item of equipment.
B. Comply with the rules and regulations of the Utility Company having jurisdiction over the connection to public natural-gas lines and the extension, and/or modifications to public utility systems.

1.10 WARRANTY
A. The Contractor shall remedy any defect due to faulty material or workmanship and pay for any damage to other work resulting therefrom within a period of two years from final acceptance.
Further, the Contractor will furnish all manufacturer's and supplier's written guarantees and warranties covering materials and equipment furnished under this contract.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 PIPES, TUBES, AND FITTINGS
A. Steel Pipe: Steel pipe shall be as per ASTM A53, black steel, Schedule 40, Type E or Type S, Grade B. Copper tubes are not allowed by code for natural gas distribution in the United States.
B. Fittings:
1. Malleable-Iron Threaded Fittings shall meet ASME B16.3, Class 300, standard pattern.
Threaded joints are not permitted except at valve connections.
2. Butt weld fittings shall be wrought steel, per ASME B16.9.
3. Wrought-Steel Welding Fittings shall meet ASTM A234 for butt welding and socket welding.
4. Unions shall be ASME B16.39, Class 300, malleable iron with brass-to-iron seat, ground joint, and threaded ends.
5. Protective Coating for Underground Piping:
a. Factory-applied, three-layer coating of epoxy, adhesive, and polyethylene PE.
b. Coal Tar Enamel Coating on exterior of pipe and fittings shall be cleaned, primed with
Type B primer and coated with hot-applied coal-tar enamel with bonded layer of felt wrap in accordance with AWWA C203. Asbestos felt shall not be used; felt material shall be fibrous-glass mat as specified in Appendix Sec. A2.1 of AWWA C203.
c. Joint cover kits shall include epoxy paint, adhesive, and heat-shrink PE sleeves.
6. Mechanical Couplings shall include:
a. Stainless-steel flanges and tube with epoxy finish.
b. Buna-nitrile seals.
c. Stainless-steel bolts, washers, and nuts.
d. Couplings shall be capable of joining PE pipe to PE pipe, steel pipe to PE pipe, or steel pipe to steel pipe.
e. Steel body couplings installed underground on plastic pipe shall be factory equipped with anodes.

2.2 JOINING MATERIALS
A. Joint Compound and Tape shall be suitable for natural-gas.
B. Welding filler metals shall comply with AWS D10.12 for appropriate wall thickness and chemical analysis of steel pipe being welded.
C. Brazing filler metals shall be alloy with a melting point greater than 1000 deg F complying with
AWS A5.8. Brazing alloys containing more than 0.05 percent phosphorus are prohibited.
2.3 DIELECTRIC FITTINGS
A. Dielectric Unions shall comply with ASSE 1079 and have a pressure rating of 125 psi minimum at
180 deg F.
B. Dielectric Flanges shall comply with ASSE 1079 and have a pressure rating of 125 psi minimum at
180 deg F.
C. Dielectric-Flange insulating kits shall have a pressure rating of 150 psi.
2.4 LABELING AND IDENTIFYING
A. Detectable warning tape shall be acid- and alkali-resistant, PE film warning tape manufactured for marking and identifying underground utilities, a minimum of 6 inches wide and 4 mils thick, continuously inscribed with a description of utility, with metallic core encased in a protective jacket for corrosion protection, detectable by metal detector when tape is buried up to 30 inches deep;
colored yellow.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
A. Close equipment shutoff valves before turning off natural-gas to premises or piping section.
B. Inspect gas piping according to NFPA 54, NFPA 58 and the International Fuel Gas Code to determine that natural-gas utilization devices are turned off in piping section affected.
C. Comply with NFPA 54, NFPA 58 and the International Fuel Gas Code requirements for prevention of accidental ignition.
3.2 METALLIC PIPING INSTALLATION
A. Heating trenches, storm and sanitary sewer lines, and water mains shall have right of way.
B. Warning tape shall be continuously placed 12 inches above buried gas lines.
C. Main services and main service shut off valves shall have a 24-inch minimum cover or as recommended by local utility.
D. Service lines shall have an 18-inch minimum cover or as recommended by local utility.
E. Where indicated, the main shall be concrete-encased sleeved.
F. Connections between metallic and plastic piping shall be made only outside, underground, and with approved transition fittings.

3.3 NON-METALLIC PIPE INSTALLATION
A. Install pipe in trench in accordance with recommendations of the pipe manufacturer. Provide sufficient slack to allow for expansion and contraction.
B. Joints shall be fusion welds made in accordance with the recommendations of the polyethylene pipe manufacturer. Adhesive joints for fiberglass plastic pipe shall be made in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
C. All offsets in piping shall be made with manufactured fittings. Bending of piping to form offsets shall not be permitted.
D. Connections between plastic pipe and metal pipe shall be made in accordance with recommendations of the pipe manufacturer.
E. Copper Tracer Wire consisting of No. 14 AWG solid, single conductor, insulated copper wire shall be installed in the trench with all piping to permit location of the pipe with electronic detectors. The wire shall not be spiraled around the pipe nor taped to the pipe. Wire connections are to be made by stripping the insulation from the wire and soldering with rosin core solder. Solder joints shall be wrapped with rubber tape and electrical tape. At least every 1000 feet, provide a 5-pound magnesium anode attached to the main tracer wire by solder joint shall be wrapped with rubber tape and with electrical tape. An anode shall be attached at the end of each line.
3.4 OUTDOOR PIPING INSTALLATION
A. Comply with ASTM D2774 for installation and purging of natural-gas piping.
B. Install underground, gas piping buried at least 48 inches below finished grade. Minimum cover depth is 18 inches. Gas piping installed less than 18 inches below finished grade shall be installed in vented containment conduit.
C. Install fittings for changes in direction and branch connections.
D. Install pressure gauge downstream from each service regulator.
3.5 PIPE SLEEVES
A. Pipe shall be continuous through sleeves. Set sleeves in place before concrete is poured. Seal between sleeve/core opening and the pipe with modular mechanical type link seal. All sleeves shall be vented.
B. Provide sleeves where gas lines pass through retaining walls, foundation walls or floors. Split sleeves may be installed where existing lines pass thru new construction.
3.6 CONNECTIONS
A. Connect to utility's gas main according to utility's procedures and requirements.
B. Install gas piping electrically continuous and bonded to gas appliance equipment grounding conductor of the circuit powering the appliance according to NFPA 70.
3.7 LABELING AND IDENTIFYING
A. Install detectable warning tape directly above gas piping, 12 inches below finished grade, except 6 inches below subgrade under pavements and slabs.

3.8 PIPE CLEANING
A. All pipe sections shall be blown down with 100 psi air to remove all sand, soil and debris.
B. Blow down procedure shall be done after system is complete, but before valves are installed.
3.9 NATURAL GAS DISTRIBUTION
A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to train Owner's maintenance personnel to adjust, operate, and maintain earthquake valves.
3.10 TESTS
A. Piping System: Inspection, testing and purging shall be in accordance with NFPA 54, NFPA 58 and
ASME B31.8.
B. Cathodic Protection System:
1. Testing of Anodes: Prior to connecting anode lead wire to the piping, insert a millimeter in the circuit and measure and record current output of each anode. When maximum current outputs, as set below, for the different sizes of anodes are exceeded, insert nickel chromium resistance wire in the circuit to reduce current output to maximum allowable for a given size anode. Resistance wire connections to anode lead wires shall be accomplished with silver solder and soldered joints wrapped with a minimum of three layers of high dielectric strength electrical tape. Cover with rubber all nickel chromium resistance wire. Maximum allowable current outputs for the different size anodes to allow for design life are as follows:

2. Final Test: Final test of the cathodic protection system shall include measuring pipe-to-soil potentials over the entire system. Make potential measurements with potentiometer voltmeter minimum internal resistance of 50,000 ohms per volt and a copper/copper sulfate reference electrode placed at the finished grade level and directly over the pipe. Adequate number of measurements shall be taken over the extent of piping to ensure that a minimum potential value of -0.85 volts exists over all new gas piping. Upon completion of testing, a report setting forth potential values acquired by location shall be submitted to the Government.
3.11 OUTDOOR PIPING SCHEDULE
A. Underground gas piping shall be one of the following:

6. Approvals will be based on complete submission of manuals and submittal drawings.

| 1.8 DELIVERY |
| A. Deliver products in manufacturer's original sealed packaging. |
| B. Mark packaging, legibly. Indicate manufacturer's name or brand, type, equipment brand, color, production run number, manufacture date, NRTL (i.e. UL) Label and point of manufacture. |
| C. Before installation, return or dispose of products within distorted, damaged, or opened packaging. |
| D. RE/COR may inventory system equipment at time of delivery and recommend rejecting non-conforming items. |
| 1.9 STORAGE AND HANDLING |
| A. Store products indoors in dry, weathertight conditioned facility. |
| 1. Store products in approved location preventing physical damage, dirt, moisture, cold, rain, snow, and other detrimental exposure. |
B. Protect products from damage during handling and construction operations.
| 1.10 FIELD CONDITIONS |
| A. Environment: |
| 1. Product Temperature: Minimum 70 degrees F for minimum 48 hours before installation. |
| 2. Work Area Ambient Conditions: HVAC systems are complete, operational, and maintaining facility design operating conditions continuously, beginning 48 hours before installation until Government occupancy. |
| 3. Install products when building is permanently enclosed and when wet construction is completed, dried, and cured. |
| a. Install products outdoors only when rated for exterior wet exposure. |
| B. Existing Conditions: Review drawings and specifications with existing site conditions. |
| 1. Report discrepancies affecting system design and installation and propose solution. |
| 2. Request RE/COR approval for proposed solution. |
| C. Field Measurements: Verify field conditions affecting product fabrication and installation. Show field measurements on Submittal Drawings. |
| 1. Coordinate field measurement and fabrication schedule to avoid delay. |
| 2. Request RE/COR instructions for proposed conflict resolution. |
| 1.11 WARRANTY |
| A. Construction Warranty: FAR clause 52.246-21, "Warranty of Construction." |
| B. Manufacturer's Warranty: Warrant buried cables, equipment against material and manufacturing defects, and degradation. |
| 1. Warranty Period: 5 years. |
| PART 2 - PRODUCTS |
| 2.1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION |
| A. System: Nonproprietary system fully integrated with Section 28 10 00, ACCESS CONTROL, Section 28 20 00, VIDEO SURVEILLANCE and Section 28 31 00, INTRUSION DETECTION. |
