About this file

This Request for Proposals solicits construction services for Pod 6 at the Smithsonian Institution's Museum Support Center. The Smithsonian seeks to award a firm-fixed price contract between $85-95 million to be funded over three fiscal years for the construction of a three-story storage pod. Pod 6 will provide 58% of its space for Smithsonian collections storage and 42% for the National Gallery of Art, allowing both institutions to consolidate collections from off-site locations. The project scope includes demolition, site work, construction of a precast concrete building to house collections with independent mechanical and security systems, as well as sustainability features like a photovoltaic system and geothermal field. Responses are due by the date specified to result in contract award and partial funding in the current and next fiscal years, with the remainder funded in the subsequent year.
