RE Review Checklist for CRT Tests Orientation Statement
· Correctly represents Target Language Passage text type
· Does not give away the Key to any Item Target Language Passage
· Required language or language variant
· Grammar, vocabulary, spelling [RC only], and register reflect generally accepted usage and are appropriate for communicative context and intent
· Content is for contemporary readers and listeners and reflects a FLO Topic
· Authentic, or scripted in a manner that simulates cultural and linguistic authenticity
· Cultural schematic demands appropriate to level
· [LC] Words/phrases are distinguishable to a listener at the targeted ILR Level, with regard to speed, enunciation, background noise, and/or audio distortion
· [LC] Speaker identity and turn-taking are clear and resulting demands are appropriate to targeted ILR level
· [LC] Accent or accents of the speaker or speakers conforms/conform to the ILR descriptors
· [LC] Transcript matches audio English Rendering
· Adheres closely to the grammatical and lexical convention of the target language, while also observing the rules of English grammar
· Accurately and completely reflects TL Passage content/intent
· Identifies/explains language features of TL (idioms, syntactic patterns, “false friends,” etc.) that are significantly different from those of US EN in parenthetical notes and/or footnotes
· Explains relevant aspects of TL culture that are different from those of the US in parenthetical notes and/or footnotes
· Approximates Level of TL Passage, if possible [note if EN is significantly harder or easier than TL]
· The English equivalent of the target language (TL) words or phrases that appear in the stems are marked by gray highlight in the rendering as well as in the TL passage. Please refer to the Rendering Guidelines document.

· Item tests comprehension of the Core of the TL Passage at the targeted Level
· Item or the focus of the item corresponds to an ILR can-do statement
· Each Key Idea (KIs) is a correct answer to the Stem
· As a group, KIs capture all correct and possible responses to the Stem
· The credit scheme reflects the increasing level of comprehension as described in the ILR descriptions.
· Target language word or phrase in the stem is clearly marked in the target language passage.
· [If more than one Item in Item Set] Items do not overlap/depend on one another/give away each other’s KIs
