About this file
This document is a Vendor Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a General Contractor Services project for the Precinct 2 Justice Facility located in Gregg County, Texas, with the solicitation reference number RFP#2025-21. The document specifically addresses a technical inquiry regarding rooftop equipment screens surrounding HVAC units, focusing on the mounting system for these screens. The vendor asked about a "not to exceed" weight limit for the proposed non-penetrating rooftop weighted boots anchor system shown in architectural drawings (Sheets A8.0 and A8.1).
The response from the project team indicates they have specified a louvered rooftop screen to be installed using non-penetrating rooftop weighted boots or alternative mounting methods. The response references design examples from two websites (archlouvers.com and cityscapesinc.com) and suggests potential mounting approaches including weighted bracing, framing, or bracing directly against the HVAC units. The respondent also committed to following up with the engineer to obtain specific details about potential weight limitations for the mounting system, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to clarifying technical specifications for potential bidders.

Vendor Questions and Answers (1) General Contractor Services for Precinct 2
Justice Facility in Gregg County, Texas
RFP#2025-21
1. Sheet A8.0 has three roof top equipment screens surrounding HVAC units.
Sheet A8.1, detail 3, shows “weighted boots” as the anchor system for the screen frame. Is there a “not to exceed” weight limit for the boots? Our roofer has not seen this type of system. I was unable to source information on the structural plans beyond the framing for the RTU’s the equipment screens are to hide
Answer: We specked a louvered rooftop screen to be installed and specified them to be supported by non-penetrating rooftop weighted boots or other mounting methods or similar.
leaning on the designs from the link below:

Whether that’s weighted bracing, framed or braced against the units themselves.
I will get with the engineer today and see if I can find the specifics on the ‘do not exceed’.
