About this file

This document set consists of engineering design drawings and specifications for Reach 3 of the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project, a San Juan Lateral water transmission line in New Mexico managed by the Bureau of Reclamation. The project involves construction of approximately 4.4 miles of buried water transmission pipeline with associated appurtenances from Station 3302+00 to Station 3744+56.27. The pipeline ranges from 48 inches to 36 inches in diameter and includes reinforced concrete miter bends, sectionalizing butterfly valves with filling lines, air valves, blowoffs, buried manholes, and connection infrastructure at a water treatment plant regulating tank site.

Construction requirements include open-cut crossings at maintained and unmaintained roads with specified compaction percentages (85-95%), gravel resurfacing for maintained road replacements, utility relocations including a 4-inch NTUA waterline removal, buried utility coordination with overhead powerlines at three locations, and horizontal directional drilling (HDD) bore crossings where specified. The project involves complex geology with mixed rock and non-rock conditions requiring varied miter bend placement strategies documented in comprehensive data tables. Key construction details specify 75-foot-wide right-of-way throughout most segments, temporary safety fencing and monitoring at the terminal section, trench box requirements between certain stations, and manifold trenches using CLSM (Controlled Low-Strength Material). All elevations reference NAVD88 vertical datum and New Mexico State Plane Coordinate System West Zone (NAD83). The design was completed by Jacobs Engineering with a dated February 2026 baseline, requiring contractor verification of final angles, slopes, and measurements prior to construction.

NOTES

1. Drawing not to scale.

2. See Specifications on exact label text required for each valve.

3. All sectionalizing valves will require a bypass.

4. For pipe trench earthwork details, see (60795).

5. The minimum steel cylinder thickness for the section of line pipe with the valve outlet shall be the thickness of the steel line pipe. For the steel line pipe thickness see the Specifications.

6. Piping next to butterfly valves may require 1" oversizing so that the applied interior lining will not reduce the inside dimension to a smaller size which could prevent the butterfly valve from opening. Valve bypass piping shall be epoxy lined.

7. For collar details, see (60803).

8. Flange class shall meet pressure requirement designated by adjacent line pipe. Flange drilling shall match mating flange.

9. For Flange and Valve ratings, see notes (60799).

10. Dissimilar metals require a dielectric coupling for electrical isolation.

OPERATING CRITERIA

1. High performance Bypass butterfly valve shall be fully open when operated.

2. Excavation around blocking shall not occur when the pipeline is under hydrostatic pressure.
