Question 1: Per B08_ATT_1_Specifications_
Updated_2024-07-29_0001, Section 09 90 00 ¿
Painting and Coatings, Article 1.8 Warranty, Item
B calls for a 5-year warranty. This is for painting the wood. Section 09 00 10 ¿ Coating of
Exterior Metal, Part 30 ¿ Bridge Coating 1 ¿ Year
Inspection, Item 30.1 Also states to provide a
5-year warranty. Will this be clarified prior to bid. This will be a costly item if we can even get a 5-year warranty.
Answer 1: There will be a 1-year inspection to identify areas of coating that were missed, thin and/or require touchup after 1 year. The
5-year warranty is a comprehensive coverage, that the wood paint and bridge metal coating system will be intact and withstand elements 5 years post completion of construction.
Question 2: Also there are several references to lead requirements in these specifications including Hepa filter dust collection, etc.¿ Will these items be addressed prior to bid. These are costly items as well that are not even necessary.
Please clarify.
Answer 2: Point Bonita is an environmentally sensitive site; construction dust and debris must be contained within scaffolding or rig system and/or environmental control system.
Construction Dust and debris cannot be permitted to contaminate Point Bonita Shoreline. There is no lead or lead based paint used on the bridge.
Question 3: Per B08_ATT_1_Specifications_
Updated_2024-07-29_0001, Section 09 90 00 ¿
Painting and Per bid Item 6 Concrete Repair, the specifications nor the drawings show where these locations are at. Please clarify where the 200 square feet of repairs are located.
Answer 3: There is undermining of the northwest retaining wall, moderate cracking of the retaining wall above the undermined area, and spalling with exposed reinforcing along the north side of the approach. Please refer to attachment

Question 5: What is the width of the tunnel and pedestrian path?
Answer 5: Contractor is responsible for verifying all dimensions. Pedestrian path and tunnel are
6¿ width.
Question 6: The coating system specified in
Section 09 00 10- Coating of Exterior Metal cannot be used on the cables and have a 5 year warranty. The flexing of the cables will cause the coating to crack and the coating system to prematurely fail. The cables should have an acrylic, elastomeric type system, like Rustoleum
Noxyde. This was used on the cables for new
Carquinez Bridge. FD Thomas, Inc does not write specifications for coating systems. Please clarify the coating system for all cables.
Answer 6: Substitution is permitted for Tenemic products.
Question 7: How will inaccessible metal locations be handled for painting and warranty.
Answer 7: Contractor is responsible for scaffolding and/or rig or have workers rappel to access all areas of bridge. Bridge Inspection was conducted by engineers rappelling to access inaccessible areas.
Question 8: Is there lead base paint on the bridge structure? At the bid walk we were told there was no lead present. Please clarify.
Answer 8: No lead-based paint as bridge was constructed in 2012. Hazardous materials abatement is not required in proposal.
Question 9: Where is our laydown area? Parking lot?
Answer 9: Parking lot may be used as laydown area, with appropriate signage and temporary barriers.
Question 10: Can we stage some equipment just before the tunnel?
Answer 10: Staging is permitted in area between

140P8624R0017/0003 tunnel and bridge, and before the tunnel with temporary barriers, signage and closure of staging area.
Question 11: The coating specifications call for
Dehumidification during painting. This will be very difficult to achieve due to the distance from the tunnel entrance to the bridge.
Answer 11: Contractor is responsible for constructing a climate-controlled/ temperature-controlled scaffolding system.
Question 12: The coating specifications call for
Hepa Dust Collection. This will also be difficult to achieve. We would have to run 2000¿ of ducting or helicopter the equipment in.
Answer 12: Helicopter is acceptable means to bring in equipment. Helicopter drops have been used during construction at Point Bonita previously. Dust collection is mandatory;
Construction Dust and debris cannot be permitted to contaminate Point Bonita Shoreline.
Question 13: The specifications Section 09 00 10-
Coatings of Exterior Metal call out as if the metal items have lead base paint. Can you please provide a Lead hazardous Report.
Answer 13: The bridge does not have lead-based paint. For pricing, estimating and proposal purposes that the bridge constructed in 2012 does not have lead-based paint.
Question 14: Will the pedestrian path be closed to the public during construction?
Answer 14: The Tunnel, pedestrian path from the tunnel will be closed, and all access to the bridge closed during construction. The Path leading up to the to the tunnel may have pedestrian traffic but can be closed at the contractor¿s request for extended periods of time.
Question 15: Are the cables part of Bid Item 2
Sandblast Metal Bridge Components? If so, they are in very bad shape and do not want to damage them further, please clarify.

Answer 15: The cables on the bridge have been assessed by federal highways as having surface corrosion. Cables must be taken down to bare white metal, and flash corrosion prevented when applying the coating system as outlined in the specifications. Care must be taken to avoid damage to the structural integrity of the cables.
Please refer to Collins report (Attachment 12) attached for more detail about condition of bridge, and corrosion to cables.
Question 16: The square footage listed in Bid item 3 Rough Sand Wood Exterior and Paint @ 2,840
SF seems very low. Please clarify.
Answer 16: A complete set of construction drawings for the bridge has been provided to the contractors. Contractor is responsible for verifying all dimensions, including area to be painted. Please verify and calculate square footage to be painted based upon construction documents.
All other Terms and Conditions remain the same.
