About this file

This is a Scope of Work (SOW) for the National Park Service regarding boardwalk rehabilitation and replacement at Fort Frederica National Monument.

The project requires complete demolition and removal of an existing wood boardwalk and construction of a new wood boardwalk in its place. The contractor must provide all labor, materials, equipment, and transportation necessary for the work, which includes demolition, elevated boardwalk footings and post anchorage using reinforced precast concrete footings (minimum 4,000 psi concrete), ground contact boardwalk construction with nominal 4x4 preservative-treated posts spaced at maximum 8 feet on center, elevated boardwalk construction with double nominal 2x8 beams and nominal 6x6 posts, nominal 5/4 x 6 decking installed perpendicular to joists, and a two-rail guardrail 42 inches high running the full length. All lumber in ground contact or embedded in concrete must be preservative-treated for ground contact; all fasteners, connectors, and through-bolts must be Type 316 stainless steel. The contractor must maintain site control and visitor/worker safety throughout, maintain a continuous accessible route, protect adjacent cultural and natural resources, and restore disturbed areas. Deliverables include material submittals, a site-specific safety plan with Activity Hazard Analyses for various construction phases, and a one-year workmanship warranty. Cultural resource restrictions limit ground disturbance to the existing boardwalk footprint with construction activities confined to 15 feet north of the perimeter, and all wheeled equipment must use turf tires. Option 1 requires providing a temporary accessible ramp or walkway system approximately 53 feet 6 inches long spanning the moat, located approximately 20 feet north of the existing boardwalk, with all associated costs included in the option pricing.
