About this file
This document contains responses to questions regarding a solicitation for construction of a visitor center addition at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. The solicitation seeks a general contractor to provide site superintendent and project manager services onsite at all times in a dual role. The covered patio area must be sprinkler protected. Wall types A and B require 8-inch metal studs. Black locust veneer is required to match existing construction. Sprinkler protection is needed for the exterior patio due to combustible construction. Audiovisual system specifications are included in specification section 27-41-50. Clarification is provided on room wall finishes and a drawing elevation.

Questions and Answers 2
1. Can you confirm that both the superintendent and the Project Manager is to be onsite at all times?
Response: We need a Site Superintendent on site at all times.
2. Can the Project Manager and Superintendent position be a dual hat position?
Response: The Site Superintendent/Project Manager positions can be a dual hat position if that is what you need to do.
3. Can the Superintendent dual hat as the Safety Manager?
Response: The Site Superintendent/Safety Manager can be a dual hat position also.
4. The drawing shows a covered outside patio area. Is this area required to be protected with automatic sprinklers? If so, it will need to be a dry pipe type system. We would then need a room or area to house the control valve, dry pipe valve, air compressor, etc. This would need to be in a heated area.
Response: The covered patio area is required to be sprinklered as the wood ceiling is combustible and the width exceeds 4 feet.
5. Sheet A6.0 (25 of 71) shows the wall types A & B as 8” metal stud walls. However on sheet S4.1 the structural wall details show 6” metal studs. What is the required stud thickness for wall types A & B?
Response: The required stud width for wall types A and B is 8 inches.
6. For Evaluation Factor #1 is the GC Experience Summary for each project the same as the items 1-8 for the project information? What needs to be included in the GC Experience Summary?
Response: The GC Experience Summary for each project shall provide the information from items 1 through 8.
7. For white oak veneer acceptable in lieu of the black locust veneer at millwork?
Response: White oak is not an acceptable substitute for black locust as we are matching existing construction.
8. Reference Sheet 18 of 71 (Reflected Ceiling Plan). The plans indicate the exterior patio to have T&G wood decking. Because this appears to be combustible construction we would be required to provide sprinkler protection for this area. The existing system we are tying into is a wet system and the dimensions of the patio would not make dry sidewall type sprinklers an option.
Please clarify if sprinkler protection is required for this exterior patio, and if so, how is it to be protected from freezing?
Response: Answered previously, required per code.
9. Reference The table of contents includes 27-41-00 Audio/Visual Systems but this was not included in the spec book. Can you confirm that an A/V spec is needed? Also, the spec book included 32-17-23, but was not included in the list in the table of contents.
Response: Included in addendum information from designer.
10. Note 4 on sheet A1.0 (15 of 71) states TV and Bracket by GC, see specifications. There are no specifications on the TV or Bracket. Can this be provided?
Response: Included in spec 27-41-50.
11. Elevation in exhibit 140 on sheet A1.0 has 8 on 30. This shows the elevation in the restroom. I believe this should be elevation 4 on 30
Response: Agree, if we can get in addendum, or can fix with RFI during construction. Simple clarification
12. A9.0 room finish schedule shows WP on the south and west walls of the Janitor room
