About this file

This document is a specification section for the design, fabrication, and installation of radial gates and associated equipment for the CRIP MC185/MC270 Check Rehabilitation project. The key details are:

The specification covers the radial gates, gate hoist assemblies, wire ropes, cathodic protection, mechanical gate position indicators, and related components. It includes requirements for submittals, qualifications, quality control, factory acceptance testing, shipping, installation, commissioning, and training. The radial gates are specified to have a minimum 20-year service life and be designed to withstand certain hydraulic heads. Specific design criteria, material requirements, and performance parameters are detailed. The radial gate components must be furnished by a single manufacturer. The Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs is the federal agency involved in this project.

DEFINITIONS

Cathodic Protection: A technique to reduce the corrosion of a metal surface by making that surface the cathode of an electrochemical cell.

Electrolyte: A chemical substance, such as soil or water, containing ions that migrate in an electric field. The terms for these specific conductive solutions may be substituted for the word “electrolyte” in these definitions.

Galvanic Anode Cathodic Protection: Reduction of corrosion of a metal in an electrolyte by electrically coupling it to a more anodic (or active) metal. This form of cathodic protection is also called sacrificial anode cathodic protection.
