Fred Perrin frederick.perrin@usda.gov
Project Name: Hertz Mountain Lookout/Forest Service Project Address: Hertz Mountain Lookout Project Scope: Lead Paint Inspection
Dear Mr. Perrin, Guzi-West certified lead-based paint sampling personnel received representative Hertz Mountain Lookout paint chip samples, from Fred Perrin, on April 26, 2021. Following sample receival from Mr. Perrin, the samples were submitted by a Guzi-West certified lead-based paint sampling technician, under chain-of-custody documentation, to a California-certified laboratory for analysis.
As evidenced by the laboratory report provided in Attachment A, two paint chip samples analyzed contain a concentration of lead which is regulated by the State of California; the California Code of Regulations defines a lead-containing surface coating as a painted surface containing greater than 600 parts per million lead. Additionally, one paint chip sample collected and analyzed contains a concentration of lead defined as a lead-based paint; the EPA defines lead-based paint as a painted surface containing equal to or greater than 5,000 parts per million lead. The bulleted list below identifies the painted surfaces classified as either lead-based paint or lead-containing surface coating;
• Outrigger, White – lead based paint (6,472 ppm)
• Window Corner Trim (1” x 6”) - lead-containing surface coating (3,615 ppm)
• Tongue and Groove Siding, White - lead-containing surface coating (611.5 ppm)
Guzi-West recommends all painted surfaces be treated as lead-based paint due to one paint chip sample containing a concentration of lead defined as lead-based paint. Prospective contractors should have training in accordance with the requirements of Title 8, California Code of Regulations, Section 1532.1 and ensure proper worker protection is utilized during any disturbance of paint containing lead.
Thank you for the opportunity to work on the project, and feel free to call/e-mail if you have any questions.
