About this file
This document is a set of Questions and Answers (Q&As) for the Sierra Fuels Landscape contract (Solicitation Number 127EAV26R0004), focused on a fuel management and landscape treatment project. The Q&As provide critical details about slash treatment requirements, including specific guidelines for wood debris management based on slope percentage. For slopes less than or equal to 35%, slash less than 3.0 inches in diameter within 100 feet of roads must be chipped, shredded, mulched, masticated, or removed. For slopes greater than 35%, slash must be piled with specific dimensional requirements (6-8 feet high, 6-12 feet in diameter), with material protrusion restrictions and careful piling techniques to minimize soil disruption. The Forest Service will ultimately burn the slash piles. The project is a new requirement, and the site is confirmed to be accessible for potential bidders to inspect.

Sierra Fuels Landscape 127EAV26R0004 Q&As
1. I see that the supplies services section says chip and pile slash, but I don't see any chipping requirements in the job specification. Please let me know if chipping will be done, and if so, up to what DBH size? We’re planning to tour the units this weekend. Let me know if the units are accessible or if there's a door for access.
A. In the SOW (Statement of Work) on page 7 under Slash Treatment it states: " All slash (created or existing), including logs, dead brush, and other wood debris less than 3.0 inches in diameter or less, within 100 feet of the edge of a road and located on slopes less than or equal to 35% resulting from thinning, pruning, brush cutting, and dead tree removal activity shall be chipped, shredded, mulched, masticated or removed. (This means slash within 100 feet from the edge of a road and any slash located on slopes less than or equal to 35% slope, both of these areas). All slash (created and existing) less than 3.0 inches or less in diameter located on sloped greater than 35% will be piled. Piles shall be a minimum size of 6 feet in height and 6 feet in diameter and a maximum size of 8 feet in height and 12 feet in diameter. All material protruding beyond thirty (30) inches from the pile shall be severed and placed back into the pile. Piling shall be conducted in such a manner that soil is not moved in the process and that suƯicient duƯ and eƯective ground cover is left over a minimum of 50 percent of the area. Forest Service will burn the piles. Slash piles will not contain material greater than 3 inches in diameter, this is to be lopped and scattered."
2. Is this a new requirement or is there an incumbent?
A. This is a new requirement.
3. Can we make a trip to view the site?
A. Yes. The site is accessible.
4. The slope is 35% do we stack the trees and haul down later?
A. You can use mechanical up to 35% slope. Over 35% calls for piling.
