About this file

This document is a technical specification and installation guide for underground electrical service to permanent buildings provided by United Electric Cooperative, Inc. (UEC), located in Dubois, PA.

The specification details requirements for a 200 Amp underground-type meter base that must be furnished and installed by the building owner or electrical contractor. The meter base location requires UEC approval and must be positioned in an accessible area free of obstructions. Key meter base specifications include pressure plates for connections, 4 jaws, ringless design, standard knockouts, steel case, horn type bypass, and tamperproof closing plates for unused openings. Multiple position bases must have individual sealable covers for each position with extra wiring space near center. The member must supply and install a 3-inch methabase-to-transformer conduit with minimum schedule 40 rating and ½-inch nylon pull rope, with all 90-degree turns maintaining a 36-inch minimum radius. Grounding requirements mandate a continuous #4 copper wire from the 200 AMP disconnect panel to two ground clamps and rods positioned 8 feet deep and 6 feet apart; for 100 AMP service, a #6 copper grounding wire is acceptable. UEC furnishes the underground service wire, while the member installs the conduit on a Cooperative-designated route. The installation must pass inspection by an approved electrical inspection agency before energization. The document was revised on October 19, 2022.
