About this file
This document includes soil profile logs and percolation test reports for a sewer replacement project on National Forest land in California. The project involves reconstructing the wastewater system at an administrative site including installing new sewer lines, septic tanks, absorption fields, an effluent lift station, and aggregate access road. Test holes were dug and soil was analyzed at seven locations, with percolation tests conducted in holes 1 through 3 and 6 through 7. Soil types varied between silty clay, sandy gravel, and loamy sand depending on depth and location. Percolation rates ranged from 1.9 to 25 minutes per inch. Groundwater was encountered between 7.5 and 9 feet below surface. The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the Forest Service for the sewer replacement project. The location is provided as is an estimated price range between $250,000 and $500,000.

After 4 hours of presoaking, water was infiltrating very quickly, so an interval time of 10 minutes was chosen.
At 3.5’ depth, the water was percolating very slowly, so this percolation hole was dug to 5’ to determine if the infiltration rate would increase in deeper soils, and as the results demonstrate, it did percolate much faster.
Smearing was observed from the surface to a depth of 3’8”. This supports the data demonstrating the delineation of the less permeable soils.
