About this file
This is an RFI Response document addressing contractor questions regarding materials specifications for a greenhouse roof replacement project at the USDA Agricultural Research Service (Solicitation Number 1232SA26Q0438).
The government clarified that the roof panels must be 16mm twin wall polycarbonate glazing panels (not 8mm as suggested by arrows in the reference brochure), with a 10-year light transmission warranty from an American manufacturer meeting Buy American requirements. The contractor had questioned whether switching from the existing 16mm thickness to 8mm would be necessary, noting that such a change would require replacement of existing bar base, bar cap, vent, and other extrusions, thereby increasing project costs. The government confirmed that the 16mm twin wall polycarbonate specification stands and that existing extrusions can be reused. Additionally, the government clarified that a reference to 16mm Acrylite acrylic panels included in the specification document was unintentional and should be disregarded, as it does not comply with Buy American requirements and was only meant to document existing conditions. Contractors should rely solely on the 16mm twin wall polycarbonate glazing specification with the 10-year warranty for their proposals.

Text version
Based on the new spec provided, we have another RFI. Please see the below:
1. The specification sheet provided is for an 8mm twin wall polycarbonate glazing panel (Makrolon). Further, there are red arrows pointing to the 8mm thickness. The contractor would like to confirm if the USDA really wants to switch from a 16mm thickness down to an 8mm thickness. Switching to 8mm would require the replacement of the existing bar base, bar cap, vent and other extrusions (glazing and flashing systems) in addition to providing and installing new panels. This would drive the cost of the project up.
0. In lieu of acrylic panels or the 8mm polycarbonate, the contractor recommends the use of 16mm thick triple wall polycarbonate panels from an American factory. The 16mm polycarbonate panels wont be as heavy/rigid as acrylic and they give up a little light transmission with three layers but are available with 10 and 15 year light transmission warranties. Using 16mm triple wall panels will allow the reuse of the existing bar base, bar cap, vent and other extrusions. Please confirm if 16mm triple wall polycarbonate panels meeting Buy American requirements is acceptable for use. RESPONSE: No. We do not want to switch from 16mm to 8 mm thickness for the roof panels. The specification calls for 16mm twin wall polycarbonate glazing. Ignore the arrows pointing to the 8mm product. The brochure was intended only to show the 16 mm product. We want the 10-year warranty. We confirmed this is an American made product. See catalog cut below.
1. Please confirm the intent of providing an acrylic specification at the end of the 8mm twin wall polycarbonate panel document. It is referencing a 16mm Acrylite acrylic panel that does not meet Buy American compliance. Was this mistakenly included? Please confirm. RESPONSE: Yes, it was only intended to be a reference document to show existing conditions. Ignore this reference.
