About this file
This is a Scope of Work document issued by Broward County's Public Works Construction Management Division for the construction of a new one-story, 6,335 square foot building addition to the existing Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) Administration Building located at 1600 Blount Road, Pompano Beach, Florida. The project involves adding to the existing 4,800 square foot administration building that was constructed in 1981, with the new addition positioned on the north side of the existing structure and designed to accommodate approximately 58 employees through 12 offices and 46 workstations. The scope includes both new construction and renovation work to the existing building, incorporating new fire sprinklers throughout the entire facility, new acoustical ceiling tile replacement, new LED lighting, minor space reconfiguration, and installation of a new emergency generator capable of supporting the combined building during emergencies.
The project requires compliance with current Florida Building Code requirements, installation of impact-resistant windows and doors meeting Miami-Dade NOA or Florida Approval standards for the new addition, and achievement of minimum LEED Silver Certification per U.S. Green Building Council guidelines for the new construction portion. The existing building will retain hurricane shutters for the non-impact resistant doors and windows, while the entire facility will be equipped with a code-compliant fire sprinkler system. The architectural drawings were prepared by Saltz Michelson Architects using Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, and the addition is designed to meet essential building requirements for emergency operations continuity.

HBMD Administration Building Expansion Scope of Work for Construction
Broward County’s Public Works Construction Management Division seeks bids for the construction of a new one story 6,335sf ± building addition to the existing one story 4,800sf ± administration building currently occupied by the Broward County Public Works Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division. The existing building to receive the addition is located at 1600 Blount Road, Pompano Beach, FL, 33069
The existing Administration Building was built in 1981. The new addition will be contiguous with the existing structure, with circulation between the two spaces.
The project will include a building addition on the north of the existing structure. The expansion will accommodate a total of approximately 58 employees (12 offices; 46 workstations). The scope of work also includes renovation to the existing building. The existing building scope includes new fire sprinklers, new acoustical ceiling tile replacement, and new LED lighting.
There is some minor reconfiguration of the existing spaces, however, the break room and restrooms will remain. The existing doors and windows are not impact resistant; however, the building is equipped with hurricane shutters. Minor renovations to the existing building will include a tie-in to the new sprinkler system and ceiling re-work.
The addition will meet the requirements for an essential building and will have new impact windows and doors complying with Miami-Dade NOA’s or Florida Approval requirements. The building in its entirety will be equipped with a code compliant fire sprinkler system. A new generator that will be able to support the combined building in an emergency is identified in the drawings. The drawings were prepared by Saltz Michelson Architects.
The building addition will meet the current Florida Building Code requirements at the time of permitting. The county will seek a minimum of LEED Silver Certification per the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) guidelines for the new portion of the construction. The project drawings were developed using Building Information modeling (BIM).
