About this file
This is a technical specification section for Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) membrane roofing installation. The specification details materials, installation requirements, and quality standards for a roof replacement project, requiring a 60-mil TPO membrane reinforced with polyester fabric in a color matching the existing roof. The insulation must be faced polyisocyanurate with minimum R-value of 5.8 per inch, arranged to achieve an average roof R-value of 20 with tapered insulation sloped at 1/8 inch per foot directed toward existing roof drains. Specific products are identified as Firestone Building Products items (UltraPly Platinum TPO membrane, ISO 95+ insulation, I.S.O SPRAY S adhesive, and Single-Ply LVOC Bonding Adhesive) or approved equivalents.
Installation requirements mandate full adhesion of both insulation and membrane using manufacturer-approved polyurethane-based adhesives with coverage rates following manufacturer specifications. The TPO membrane must extend 12 inches up penthouse walls and over parapet walls, with field seams heat-welded and positioned minimum 24 inches from roof drains. All roof penetrations require premolded one-piece TPO fittings, and aluminum flashing with 0.040-inch minimum thickness must be installed around all edges. The specification requires replacement of roof scupper drains with galvanized cast iron units (JR Smith models #1510 and #1550) and new galvanized steel downspouts. Work must maintain watertight conditions daily, follow NRCA Roofing Manual standards, and achieve FM Class 1-90 roof rating with a 20-year manufacturer material and workmanship warranty. Final acceptance requires a manufacturer inspection validating warranty eligibility and government walkthrough approval before project completion.
