About this file

This document is a detailed specification for theater curtains, providing comprehensive requirements for fabric, fire performance, and fabrication. The specifications mandate woven cotton velour curtains in Merlot color, with a minimum width of 54 inches and weight of 21 ounces per linear yard, treated with "Scotch Guard" at the mill. Fire performance requirements include a flame spread rating of no more than 25 per ASTM E84, flame retardant compliance with NPS 701, and specific standards for abrasion and colorfastness.

The fabrication guidelines are intricate, specifying 100% fullness, prohibiting horizontal seams, and detailing precise hem construction. Requirements include using first-quality mercerized thread matching the fabric color, creating 6-inch vertical hems with 1-inch tucks, double-stitching, and installing heavy jute webbing on top hems. Bottom hems must include canvas chain pockets with zinc-plated chain, and side hems are to be lined with half-width fabric. Additional specifications cover pleating, grommets, turnbacks, and lining, with the finished curtain length determined by the distance from the track's underside to one inch above the finished floor.
