NIGP 78032: Crane Scales

NIGP 78032 Crane Scales, an Item code, does not appear in the recent state and local procurement opportunities provided. The opportunities instead show active demand for crane rental services with operators, crane repair and maintenance services for stationary equipment, and structural assessment for rooftop crane installation — all crane-related work that sits outside the commodity scope of weighing scales. County of Orange in California issued an IFB for crane rental services with operators (cranes ranging 14-ton to 90-ton capacity) due May 7, 2026; Gainesville Regional Utilities issued an ITB for annual crane rental service covering mobile hydraulic and specialized lifting equipment due July 1, 2026; and Hillsborough County in Florida issued an ITB for repair services on two stationary Builtrite pedestal boom cranes with an estimated contract value of $272,000 over three years, due March 30, 2026. These opportunities reflect fleet maintenance, emergency response capability, and lifting operations support across utility, county public works, and transfer station operations.

The absence of Crane Scales solicitations in the current opportunity set — against concurrent robust crane service procurement across multiple states and issuing-body types — suggests the commodity code is not currently active in state and local purchasing or is being acquired through means other than formal competitive solicitation (cooperative purchasing, blanket purchase agreements, or vendor panels). Firms serving the code should monitor procurement activity in high-activity jurisdictions including California, Florida, and Michigan, but should treat current market conditions as a watch rather than pursue position until documented opportunities emerge.
