About the company
Instituto Nacional De Saude, doing business as Insa, is the public health institute of Mozambique with the main mandate to generate evidence to inform policymaking in the health sector. It became a fully autonomous institution in 2017, transforming into the national authority for activities related to generating health evidence in Mozambique. Insa coordinates, oversees, and regulates research, laboratory services, surveys, surveillance, training, education, and health communication across the country.
Insa has received significant funding from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the Global AIDS program and cooperative agreements to strengthen its capacity in various areas. A $5.9 million award supports robust programs in research, laboratory services, surveys, surveillance, training, education, and health communication, enabling Insa to serve as the national authority on health evidence generation. An additional $3.7 million award builds Insa's capacity as a regional resource to strengthen other national public health institutes. Insa has also acted as a sub-awardee on grants from U.S. universities like Johns Hopkins, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Emory University, Jhpiego Corp, and Columbia University. These sub-awards have enabled Insa to conduct in-country data collection, study implementation, and manage relations with national actors and health facilities for projects related to urban water systems, enteric pathogens, cervical cancer, mortality measurement, and HIV prevalence.
