About this opportunity
The South Carolina Department of Transportation is requesting bids for preventative maintenance and repair services on four elevators at SCDOT Headquarters, 955 Park Street, Columbia, with bids due November 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
The scope covers three Thyssenkrupp Aufzugswerke passenger elevators and one Hollister-Whitney freight elevator, including all preventative maintenance, repairs, state and federal testing, and certifications throughout the five-year contract term (December 31, 2026 through December 30, 2031). The contractor must provide 24-hour emergency response capability with restoration to operation within two calendar days; failure to meet this timeline triggers penalties of $250 per day. After-hours and weekend emergency response carries no additional cost to SCDOT. Contractor personnel must pass 10-year national criminal background checks, maintain uniforms and identification, and comply with SCDOT security and facility protocols. The contractor must maintain local inventory of manufacturer-recommended spare parts.
Bidders must demonstrate a minimum of five years of experience performing commercial elevator preventative maintenance on projects of comparable size and scope, with references required. Insurance requirements are Commercial General Liability of $1,000,000 per occurrence, Auto Liability of $1,000,000 per accident, and Worker's Compensation with Employer's Liability of $1,000,000 per accident; SCDOT must be named as additional insured. Pricing is fixed for the contract duration, with unit prices governing over extended prices in bid evaluation.
A non-mandatory pre-bid conference is scheduled for November 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., followed immediately by a site visit from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at SCDOT Headquarters. Questions are due November 12, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Contract award is anticipated December 1, 2026.
