About this opportunity

The State of Nevada, through the Nevada State Purchasing Division on behalf of the Nevada Department of Corrections, Silver State Industries - Prison Ranch, is seeking proposals from responsible vendors to provide a minimum of 3,000 tons of 2022 or 2023 crop alfalfa hay in large bales. The hay must meet detailed specifications regarding quality, lack of weed contamination, and bale size and condition. Delivery will commence immediately following notification of award, and vendors must provide 3-day advance notice of anticipated shipment details. Hay not meeting specifications will be rejected, with all associated costs borne by the vendor. The procurement requests FOB destination pricing, with shipping charges to include off-loading and stacking of the hay at the delivery site in Carson City, Nevada. Vendors must provide information on their available tonnage of both large and small bales. This is a one-time procurement, and the state reserves the right to make additional "opportunity buys" if in the best interest of the state.

The contract opportunity is located in Churchill County, Nevada. The state grants a 5% price preference to Nevada-based businesses and allows consideration of alternative items that meet or exceed the specifications. The contract term may be up to two years with possible annual extensions. The procurement was awarded to two vendors: Edward Viera for 800 tons at $139,200, and Berrington Custom Haystacking & Transport Inc. for 3,000 tons at $525,000. Per NRS 333.370, unsuccessful proposers have 11 days to file a Notice of Appeal after the date of the Notice of Award.
