The procurement seeks to engage up to two Forensic Psychiatrists to serve as attending and/or supervising physicians providing care via telemedicine to inpatient forensic psychiatric patients at Mississippi State Hospital. Key deliverables and responsibilities include providing physician services commonly associated with forensic service patients, supervising psychiatric nurse practitioners in inpatient settings, and managing high-risk seriously mentally ill patients. Minimum qualifications require an active, unrestricted Mississippi medical license; active board certification in both general psychiatry and forensic psychiatry; a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited medical school; an unrestricted DEA certificate; at least three years of experience as a unit director or equivalent; at least five years of experience with high-risk seriously mentally ill patients; and at least five years of experience supervising psychiatric nurse practitioners in inpatient settings. Candidates must submit a curriculum vitae, peer references, and proof of licensure to Gene Amason at Mississippi State Hospital, P.O. Box 157-A, Whitfield, MS 39193, or via email to gene.amason@msh.ms.gov, with inquiries directed to 601-351-8612. The contract period extends from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2030, with an expected contract value of $375.00 per hour for an average of 12 to 26 hours per week, not to exceed 1,352 hours annually.
The procurement does not specify any set-aside designations or restrictions limiting response to particular organizational types or disadvantaged enterprises. All candidates must meet Mississippi State Hospital's medical staff credentialing requirements and successfully pass both a criminal background check and drug screen as conditions of contract award. No incumbent vendors or existing contractors are identified in the solicitation materials. The total four-year contract value is estimated between $199,200 and $519,200, calculated based on the hourly rate of $375.00 multiplied by the annual hour ranges of 12 to 26 hours per week over the contract term.
