About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 15 has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to award a sole source, firm-fixed price contract to GI Construction for HVAC improvements at the Bob Dole Veterans Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. This Notice of Intent, published under Federal Acquisition Regulation requirements, serves as an informational announcement rather than a competitive solicitation. The contract involves replacing the existing Air Handling Unit (AHU) and return fan serving renovated areas on the third floor of the medical center located at 5500 E Kellogg Dr. The procurement falls under NAICS Code 236220 for Commercial and Institutional Building Construction with an estimated value of $45 million. The contracting action is justified under statutory authority allowing sole source awards to certified service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.
The primary objective of this contract is to address critical infrastructure deficiencies that are preventing the use of essential patient care areas at the Wichita VAMC. The current AHU has been determined to be undersized, necessitating immediate replacement with a larger unit to restore functionality to needed patient care spaces. This Special Notice explicitly states that it is not a request for competitive quotes, and no solicitation documents will be made available to other contractors. The procurement is specifically restricted to GI Construction as a certified service-disabled veteran-owned small business under VAAR 819.7008 deviation procedures. Contractors interested in this opportunity should note that no responses will be considered by the government, and the notice has a response deadline of August 7, 2025, at 10:00 Central Time. Questions regarding this notice can be directed to Contract Specialist Jennifer Hill at Jennifer.Hill@va.gov.
