About this opportunity

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), under the Department of Energy, is seeking a contractor to manufacture vacuum pumping stations for the Advanced Light Source Upgrade (ALS-U) project. The solicitation (JS-2025-002) requires the design, fabrication, dimensional inspection, and delivery of VC04 and VC12 Pumping Stations, specifically one VC12 Standard First Article, two VC04 Pumping Stations, four VC12 Standard Pumping Stations, and two VC12 HBend Pumping Stations. Mandatory qualifications include recent experience manufacturing Ultra High Vacuum chambers for Particle Accelerator applications, 5-axis CNC and wire erosion machining capabilities for CuCrZr material, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection capabilities. The Request for Quotation (RFQ) falls under NAICS code 339113 with an 800-employee size standard, and responses are due by January 22, 2025. Evaluation will likely focus on technical compliance, manufacturing capabilities, and ability to meet stringent technical specifications outlined in the compliance matrix.

The contract opportunity has no specific set-aside designation and will be awarded for performance at LBNL's Berkeley, California facility. The total fixed-price amount remains to be determined, but the project requires precise manufacturing with strict technical requirements, including achieving a maximum thermal outgassing rate of 1.00e-11 Torr.l.s-1.cm-2 and a final pressure of 5.00e-10 Torr. The production timeline mandates delivery of the first article within 12 weeks after Final Design Review approval, with production units to be delivered within 20 weeks after first article approval. Contractors must comply with detailed technical specifications, including UHV chamber production requirements, environmental sustainability standards, and specific packaging protocols. The subcontractor must also register in the System for Award Management (SAM) within 30 days of award and adhere to comprehensive quality assurance and inspection protocols defined in the project documentation.
