About this opportunity
Brookhaven National Laboratory, operating under the Department of Energy Office of Science, is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential manufacturers for two specialized microscopy research instruments. The procurement involves a Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) cooling Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) holder with electrical feedthroughs and a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) stage with high-frequency capabilities. The TEM holder must provide precise heating and biasing control from -173C to 800C, feature double-tilt capability, and include a removable 4-hour liquid nitrogen dewar. Interested parties are required to submit a capabilities statement and SAM.gov UEI number to Eric Nagel at enagel@bnl.gov by April 15, 2025. The Buy American Act is applicable to this requirement, and a formal Request for Quotation (RFQ) will be posted at a later date after potential sources are identified.
The pre-solicitation notice does not indicate any specific set-aside designations for this procurement. The contract involves manufacturing two complex scientific instruments with specific delivery timelines: the TEM holder is to be completed 150 days after contract award, while the SEM stage is to be delivered 360 days after contract award. The procurement falls under NAICS category 335999 (All Other Miscellaneous Electrical Equipment and Component Manufacturing) and PSC category 6650 (Optical Instruments, Test Equipment, Components And Accessories). The SEM stage must include RF cable integration for in situ biasing experiments and a flippable head stage for switching between SEM and TKD configurations. While no specific award value or budget range is disclosed in the pre-solicitation notice, the technical complexity of the instruments suggests a potentially significant investment in specialized research equipment.
