About this opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention seeks a Telemetry System-9390P08 from Infrared Telemetrics Inc. via sole source firm fixed price purchase order, with quotations due August 24, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. EST and questions due August 20. The procurement is justified under FAR 12.102; market research identified competing vendors (SEMCO and Transmission Dynamics) but determined only Infrared Telemetrics met all technical requirements.
Place of performance is the contractor's facility, with delivery to NIOSH Pittsburgh Mining Research Division at 626 Cochran Mill Road, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15236-3611. The system must collect sensor data from rotating drill steel on roof bolting machines in underground mining operations, operating reliably in high vibration environments such as internal combustion engines and rotating machinery. The system requires universal signal conditioning to support strain gauges, load cells, and accelerometers. Deliverables include two single-channel analog RF transmitters (acceleration and strain), one inductive power converter with pickup coil, one Model 1051 inductive power supply, one custom inductive exciter coil with mounting hardware and receiving antennas, and design, machining, and assembly of a clamp-on transmitter housing for direct mounting to drill steel. All equipment must be delivered fully functional within 90 days of award. The contractor must be an authorized manufacturer or distributor and comply with Section 508 accessibility standards. The NAICS code is 334519 (Other Measuring and Controlling Device Manufacturing) and PSC is 6625 (Electrical and Electronic Properties Measuring and Testing Instruments). The procurement amount is below $350,000 and is not available on GSA Schedule.
Notice text
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Infrared Telemetrics Inc. 1780 Birch St., MI 49930-1072 (CAGE Code: 3M7H3) for the purchase of a Telemetry System-9390P08 for development of seismic potential forecasting methods.
Description
This contract action is for the purchase of a Telemetry System-9390P08 for Development of Seismic Potential Forecasting Methods.
The contractor shall provide a radio frequency telemetry system capable of collecting sensor data from roof bolting machines during operation. The system shall include all required components, accessories, and documentation needed for operation. The objective is to collect data from the rotating drill steel of a roof bolting machine, where traditional wiring is not practical. The system must be capable of operating in high vibration environments, such as internal combustion engines, automotive transmissions, and rotating machinery, and must be demonstrated to maintain reliable data collection under these conditions. The system must also include universal signal conditioning to support strain gauges, load cells, accelerometers, and other compatible sensors. The system shall be capable of operating in high vibration environments and shall include signal conditioning to support strain gauges and accelerometers. The data collected will support efforts to identify structurally unsound roof conditions and improve mine safety.
The contractor shall provide the following components:
• One single channel analog radio frequency transmitter for acceleration
• One single channel analog radio frequency transmitter for strain
• One inductive power converter with pick up coil
• One Model 1051 inductive power supply
• One custom inductive exciter coil with mounting hardware and integral receiving antennas
The contractor shall provide design, machining, and assembly of a clamp-on transmitter housing containing the transmitters and power converter. The housing shall be designed to mount directly to the drill steel. The system shall be delivered in fully functional condition.
The Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 12.102 and 12.201-1. All responsible sources may submit a capability statement, proposal, or quotation, which shall be considered by the agency.
This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all quotations responses received by Monday, 24 August 2026 at 10:00 am Eastern Standard Time (EST) of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Any quotations /responses should be emailed to Sandra Adams at ab41@cdc.gov by Monday, 24 August 2026.
