About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) is seeking vendors to upgrade a SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) Magnetometer for the Spin Electronics Group of the Physical Measurement Laboratory in Boulder, CO. The primary objective is to obtain a closed cryostat system that eliminates the current requirement for weekly liquid helium usage while maintaining existing technical capabilities. Vendors must provide a system with a temperature range of 1.8 K - 400 K and a maximum ramp rate of 700 Oe/sec, along with all necessary hardware and software. Evaluation criteria will focus on vendors' capability to meet technical specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and experience in delivering similar scientific instrumentation. Interested businesses must submit a four-page electronic capability statement to Lisa Stevens at lisa.stevens@nist.gov by April 18, 2025, detailing company information, manufacturing origin, business status, product specifications, and lead times.

While no specific award value is mentioned, the procurement requires delivery of a non-prototype system meeting factory acceptance standards, with a 12-month warranty and hands-on training for 5 NIST staff members. The total project timeline requires completion within 12 months after receipt of order, with NIST reserving the right to inspect and accept or reject the equipment within 30 days of delivery based on performance testing and visual inspection. This sources sought notice is preliminary market research and does not guarantee a contract award, with NIST potentially proceeding via competitive or non-competitive procurement based on the responses received. The government will use the submitted capability statements to determine whether to pursue a sole source or competitive procurement strategy.
