About this opportunity

The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has issued a Special Notice regarding a Technology Area of Interest (AOI) for the Special Operations Forces Mission Command (SOFMC) Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) software development program. This solicitation seeks innovative commercial solutions to enhance collaborative TAK software capabilities that support all phases of SOFMC operations, including mission planning, rehearsal, and execution. The government is specifically focused on integrating new capabilities and complementary tools into the existing SOFMC software suite through an agile DevSecOps approach. The initiative emphasizes rapid enhancement of capabilities to address emerging threats and improve battlefield awareness while streamlining the Development Security Operations pipeline. USSOCOM aims to identify novel solutions with architectures and technical attributes that can be demonstrated within an estimated 8-week period using agile software development best practices and adherence to DoD Software Acquisition Pathway guidelines.

The primary objective of this AOI is to rapidly develop and field collaborative TAK software solutions that can address identified capability gaps or improve current capabilities through continuous development and integration of new technologies. Contractors must submit 6-page white papers by July 22, 2025, which will be evaluated using a pass/fail go/no-go matrix focusing on technical merit, integration potential, and innovation. The solicitation is structured in two phases: Phase I involves white paper submission and evaluation, while Phase II will involve prototype demonstrations for selected offerors, with potential follow-on production contracts valued up to $100 million. Key technical requirements include modular open systems architecture, ability to operate in denied or intermittent environments, AI/ML assistance capabilities, and interoperability with existing TAK platforms. The program particularly targets non-traditional defense contractors and emphasizes human-centered design focused products that incorporate constant feedback from operational units to ensure development efforts meet validated requirements.
