About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Network 21 intends to sole-source a contract for preventive maintenance and emergency service of Abiomed Impella Systems at the VA San Francisco Health Care System. The VA plans to award this contract directly to Abiomed Inc. under FAR 13.106-1(b) and FAR 6.302-1 authority, citing this as a commercial item procurement that will not be competitively solicited. The contract will provide ongoing maintenance and emergency repair services for specialized cardiac support equipment at the San Francisco VA Medical Center located at 4150 Clement Street. While this is intended as a sole-source award, interested parties may submit capability statements demonstrating they can provide equivalent services by August 11, 2025, at 4:00 PM PDT via email to the contracting officer Destiny Quenga at Destiny.Quenga@va.gov. The government retains sole discretion to determine whether to compete this requirement, and no formal solicitation will be posted beyond this pre-solicitation notice.
This procurement carries no set-aside designation and falls under NAICS code 811210 for Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance, with a small business size standard of $34.0 million annually. Abiomed Inc. is identified as the intended sole-source contractor for this requirement, presumably due to their proprietary manufacturing relationship with the Impella cardiac support systems requiring maintenance. The contract structure will be a five-year firm-fixed price award, though specific dollar values are not disclosed in the notice. The work will be performed at the single location of the VA San Francisco Health Care System, focusing on maintaining critical life-support medical equipment. The procurement is classified under Product Service Code J065 for maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of medical, dental, and veterinary equipment and supplies. Companies responding to express interest must provide clear and convincing evidence of their capability to deliver the same services within the required timeframe.
