About this opportunity
Veterans Integrated Service Network 22 of the Department of Veterans Affairs awarded contract 36C26226P1009 to Alcon Vision, LLC for $24,500 in preventive maintenance and inspection services for Alcon Constellation LXT Units on May 21, 2026.
The award was issued under solicitation 691-26-3-208-0151 (PSC J065, Medical Equipment Maintenance) with no set-aside. The award was made on a sole-source basis, justified by Alcon's exclusive manufacturing and service authorization for the Constellation Vision System. The agency cited proprietary technologies—including ULTRAVIT/HYPERVIT drive technology, integrated PUREPOINT laser, IOP Compensation, and ENGAUGE RFID—as unavailable through competing suppliers, along with warranty restrictions, safety-critical service requirements, and the operational necessity of uninterrupted eye surgery services for Veteran patients. The contracting office is located in Tucson, Arizona; the awardee is based in Fort Worth, Texas.
Notice text
The CONSTELLATION® Vision System is manufactured and serviced exclusively by Alcon Vision, LLC. Its proprietary technologies including ULTRAVIT®/HYPERVIT® drive technology, integrated PUREPOINT® laser, IOP Compensation, and ENGAUGE® RFID are only available through Alcon and cannot be replicated by other suppliers. Alcon restricts critical parts and service to their own certified engineers for safety, which is necessary due to the complexity and uniqueness of the system.
Attempting to use another company for parts or service would void warranties, risk patient safety, and could lead to equipment failure. Replacing the entire system with another manufacturer would result in substantial costs for new equipment, training, and facility changes. Most importantly, any delay or disruption in service would negatively affect Veteran patient care by interrupting essential eye surgery services.
For these reasons, only Alcon can meet this requirement without incurring significant cost and risk to Veteran care. Awarded contract 36C26226P1009 to Alcon Vision, LLC for 24500.00 on 2026-05-21.
