About this opportunity
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, operated by Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC under a Department of Energy prime contract, is seeking qualified manufacturers for the fabrication, assembly, testing, and delivery of Global Magnetic Shields for the PIP-II SSR2 Cryomodule. The procurement is for a built-to-print package requiring the manufacture of 6 Procurement Assemblies (part F10240910) and 32 Tuner Motor Magnetic Shield Kits (part F10182640), utilizing materials conforming to ASTM A753 Type 4 specifications. Key requirements include strict dimensional tolerances and magnetic flux attenuation of less than 15 milliGauss in a 600-millimeter diameter cylinder, comprehensive quality inspections, magnetic flux measurements, and delivery of fully documented components. Evaluation will employ a best-value trade-off source selection process that permits tradeoffs between cost and non-cost factors, with proposals assessed on technical capabilities, past experience, management control plans, and quality assurance documentation. The proposal deadline is January 22, 2026, and technical drawings are available upon direct request to the primary contact.
This is an unrestricted solicitation with no small business set-aside, classified under NAICS 332312 (Fabricated Structural Metal Manufacturing) with a 500-employee small business size standard. Pricing must be firm-fixed in U.S. dollars, valid for 90 days, with all shipping and freight costs included and domestic delivery on an FOB Destination basis to Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois. Offerors must submit proposals in two parts—a Technical Proposal and a Business/Management Proposal—and comply with comprehensive federal compliance requirements, including small business subcontracting plans, representations and certifications, and export control compliance. The Statement of Work specifies critical milestones including a kick-off meeting within two weeks of purchase order award, a Manufacturing Readiness Review within eight weeks, bi-weekly status reports, and onsite assembly beginning in 2027 with multiple scheduled appointments. All successful subcontractors must comply with FFDG's General Terms and Conditions for Supplies and incorporate applicable Federal Acquisition Regulation and Department of Energy Acquisition Regulation clauses.
