About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System is soliciting courier services to transport reusable medical devices (RMDs) between multiple VA medical centers across Alabama and Georgia, including Montgomery VAMC, Tuskegee VAMC, and facilities in Birmingham, Atlanta, Tuscaloosa, and Columbus. The contractor will provide specialized courier services to support the VISN 7 Sterile Processing Service (SPS) department, ensuring timely and proper transportation of clean and soiled medical devices to maintain their integrity during transport. Key requirements include operating Monday through Friday with two daily collections, maintaining temperature-controlled transportation between 66-72°F with 30-60% humidity, using dedicated vehicles, and following strict handling protocols for biohazardous materials. Proposals must demonstrate at least five years of courier service experience through a comprehensive 10-page narrative detailing previous contracts, specific tasks performed, geographic service locations, contract dates, and references. The solicitation response deadline is September 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM Eastern Time, with evaluation based on experience, price, and past performance criteria.
This opportunity is set aside exclusively for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSB), requiring vendors to be verified and listed in this category. The contract structure includes a base period from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026, with four additional one-year option periods extending through September 30, 2030, creating a potential five-year contract duration. The solicitation is organized with multiple Contract Line Item Numbers (CLINs) covering daily CAVHCS operations, miscellaneous trips within the CAVHCS area, and additional trips to and from other VA facilities, with pricing structured as firm-fixed-price rates for different types of trips and locations. The contractor must provide two vehicles and drivers trained in handling medical devices, with the primary place of performance located in Montgomery, Alabama, while serving the broader geographic area encompassing multiple states in the southeastern United States. No incumbent contractor information was provided in the solicitation materials, and specific contract values were not disclosed in the available documentation.
