The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for the repair and or replacement of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning units (HVAC) in up to twelve (12) buildings on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, Maryland campus. The primary objective of this project is to repair, complete the repair, or replace units as necessary to solve performance problems and improve the HVAC system reliability and energy efficiency in the buildings on the Gaithersburg, MD Campus.
The work specifically includes refurbishing existing air handling unit with new coils, fans, (where required), motors, humidifiers, control valves, dampers, actuators and other accessories while utilizing existing enclosures. Since some of the AHU's have been repaired, the units were reviewed to determine the extent of those repairs and indentify any additional repairs that will need to occur to those HVAC units. Additionally, the work will include the replacement of any units found that are deteriorated or damaged beyond economical repair. The project will also eliminate and replace all system components and devices utilizing pneumatic controls and convert the systems to all DDC (direct digital controls) systems that will be integrated into a site wide BMS (Building Management System).
