About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health, Office of Acquisitions, seeks acquisition of one MaiTai DeepSee Ti:Sapphire laser with delivery, installation, beam alignment, and operator training required no later than 180 days after receipt of order, with proposals due July 2, 2026. This is a competitive streamlined solicitation for commercial items under FAR 12.603, unrestricted and not expected to exceed the simplified acquisition threshold.
Place of performance is 50 South Drive, Bethesda, Maryland 20892 (delivery entry Room 1408; installation in Room 1305). The requirement specifies a completely automated, one-box, mode-locked Ti:Sapphire laser with automated DeepSee dispersion compensation optimized for use with an existing Leica multiphoton microscope system. Salient characteristics include wide tuning range (690–1040 nm), pulse duration less than 100 fsec, CPU control with user-friendly GUI, specified peak power outputs at multiple wavelengths, continuous wavelength tuning, real-time excitation fingerprinting, drop-out-free operation, on-board diagnostics, rack-mountable components, and one-year unlimited-hours warranty.
The NAICS code is 334516, Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing, with a 1,000-employee small business size standard. The Government intends to award a firm-fixed-price purchase order on a best-value basis. The solicitation includes an optional trade-in of one used Spectra-Physics MaiTai HP DS Ti:Sapphire laser (Serial No. 3349) in as-is condition; offers will be evaluated on net price (gross price minus trade-in credit). Evaluation factors are Technical Capability, Past Performance, and Delivery Schedule (combined as significantly more important than Price) and Price. Offerors must submit technical proposals demonstrating compliance with salient characteristics and compatibility confirmation with the existing Leica microscope, price proposals with itemized costs, and past performance information for at least three recent relevant contracts. Questions should be directed to Nicholas Capobianco (nicholas.capobianco@nih.gov, 301-496-1318) or, during his absence June 29 – July 20, 2026, to John Johnson (johnsonjr@mail.nih.gov).
