About this opportunity
The Naval Medical Research Center, operating under the Department of the Navy Naval Supply Systems Command, has issued a Special Notice for a sole source contract award to Nikon Instruments for preventative maintenance services on a Nikon A1R MP confocal microscope. This procurement is specifically for the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) and is intended as a non-competitive award, though the government will consider responses from other interested parties. The contract covers a 12-month period of performance spanning FY25-FY26 and includes comprehensive maintenance coverage for critical microscopy equipment used in biomedical research. The system supports NAMRU-SA's research involving microbial biofilms, cellular interactions, wound dressing scaffolding, and nanoparticle studies. The procurement falls under NAICS code 811210 and will be executed under FAR Part 12 Commercial Items guidelines.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to secure annual maintenance services that include one on-site preventative maintenance visit, unlimited technical support, software updates, and repair coverage for specific microscope components including scanner modules, laser fixtures, controllers, and detector units. Contractors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) with a valid Unique Entity Identification Number (UEI) to be eligible for award consideration. The response deadline is July 3, 2025, with services to be performed at JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Nikon Instruments has been identified as the exclusive service provider through a sole source certification letter, emphasizing that all service requests for Nikon confocal systems must be handled directly through their Service Department. The contract includes requirements for a Non-disclosure Agreement and emphasizes the critical nature of maintaining system uptime to prevent impairment of research productivity and mission effectiveness.
