About this opportunity

The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 2 is seeking to procure a specialized laser cassette printer for anatomic pathology specimen processing at the Syracuse VAMC. This pre-solicitation notice (36C24225Q0766) represents a one-time, non-repetitive purchase of a laser cassette printer that employs laser technology to produce high-quality prints on cassettes, ensuring specimens are processed consistently and efficiently while maintaining patient safety through reliable, readable labeling. The procurement requires a minimum 6-cassette hopper printer with specific technical specifications including electrical compatibility of 100-240V at 50/60 Hz, compact dimensions of 30 cm width by 60 cm height and depth, weighing 100 pounds with capacity for at least 300 cassettes. The printer must utilize a Sealed Class IV YAG laser, support up to 100 2D barcode characters, and demonstrate quiet operation while printing across 6 different cassette colors simultaneously. The solicitation specifically references the Epredia Fa-Tech Laser Cassette Printer (Catalog # VEGA05FTPC) and requires a side delivery system for organizing printed cassettes. Responses to this sources sought notice are due by July 1, 2025, at 4:00 PM Eastern Time.

This procurement does not utilize any set-aside designations and is classified under NAICS code 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing and PSC code 6515 for Medical and Surgical Instruments, Equipment, and Supplies. No current contractors or potential incumbents are identified in the documentation, and no specific award values or budget ranges are disclosed in this pre-solicitation phase. The technical requirements specify performance metrics including printing at least one cassette every 10 seconds with a throughput capacity of at least 500 cassettes per hour, indicating the high-volume processing needs of the medical facility. The procurement focuses on a single unit purchase rather than multiple quantities, reflecting the specialized nature of this laboratory equipment. The timeline appears compressed with only one week between the posting date of June 24, 2025, and the response deadline of July 1, 2025, suggesting urgency in the VA's procurement timeline.
