About this opportunity

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), on behalf of the Department of Energy Office of Science, intends to solicit a 100.625 MHz RF Power Amplifier System under total small business set-aside, with RFQ 480758 anticipated in August 2026 and a response deadline of August 18, 2026. The requirement is for a 350 kW solid-state power amplifier system to support the Electron Beam Ion Source project, with delivery, installation, integration, and performance verification included. An optional second unit may be purchased subject to funding availability.

Place of performance is the United States, with system delivery and acceptance testing at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, New York. The power amplifier must operate in pulsed mode at 100.625 MHz with pulse widths from 0.01 to 1.2 milliseconds and duty cycles from 0.1 to 1.2 percent. Technical requirements include minimum 85.44 dB gain, 55 percent AC-to-RF efficiency, 20 dB input and output return loss, redundant RF power amplifier modules capable of maintaining 300 kW output with up to 10 percent failed units, greater than 10,000 hours MTBF, and compliance with IEC 61000-6-2 and IEC 61000-6-4 EMC standards, NFPA 70E-2021 electrical safety, and UL 508 industrial control standards. The system must interface with 3-phase 208 VAC main power and 120 VAC control power, utilize water cooling for minimum 80 percent heat removal, and support local and remote operation via PLC-based control with Modbus/TCP, Ethernet/IP, or OPC-UA protocols.

The award will be Firm Fixed Price for one unit with an optional second unit exercisable within six months of Phase 1 completion. Major milestones include demonstrator delivery at 24 weeks post-award, factory acceptance testing at 98 weeks, and delivery to BNL at 104 weeks, with site acceptance completion at 117 weeks. The contractor must provide a two-year warranty and maintain ISO 9001 certification.
