About this opportunity

The Department of Energy is seeking a subcontractor to provide labor, equipment, materials, supplies, and fuel to drill a continuous wireline core boring to an approximate vertical depth of 6,930 feet for the Rock Valley/Direct Comparison (RV/DC) project. The purpose is to obtain geologic and geophysical samples and data necessary to characterize the geologic setting and monitor future underground activities. Key requirements include a minimum core diameter of 1.7 inches, a minimum borehole diameter of 3.7 inches at the terminal depth, and the installation of steel casing to 4,000 feet +/- 200 feet below grade surface. Proposals will be evaluated based on factors such as technical approach, past performance, key personnel qualifications, and pricing. Proposals are due by August 22, 2024 at 12:00 PM PDT.

This is a full and open competition, not a set-aside. The incumbent is unknown. The anticipated contract value is not specified, but the work is planned for an estimated 120 calendar days of performance at the Nevada National Security Site.

Annoucement: Pre-bid conference will be held 30 July 2024, conducted from 1:00-2:00 PM PST. On site and In-person options are available for attending this meeting. Meeting invites were sent only to those who responded to the RFP as interested vendors. If you did not respond to the RFP notice and are an interested vendor, please call Moriah Clark (702)-332-8822 or email at clarkma@nv.doe.gov no later than 25 July 2024 to be added to the invitation.

1. Scope: SUBCONTRACTOR shall provide the labor, equipment, materials, supplies, and fuel to drill a continuous wireline core boring to an approximate vertical depth of 6,930 feet.

2. Project Background:
2.1. The drilling and sampling of a continuous, vertically oriented, wireline core boring [also referred to as core hole (CH) in this document] is intended to provide the Rock Valley/Direct Comparison (RV/DC) with geologic and geophysical samples and data necessary to characterize the geologic setting, and monitor future underground activities conducted by the Project. Core drilling shall start at the surface and continuous core shall be collected to a total vertical depth of approximately 7,000 feet below ground surface (bgs). The minimum core diameter shall be 1.7 inches, but larger core is acceptable. The CH shall have a minimum bore hole diameter at terminal depth of no less than 3.7 inches. The CH will require steel casing to be installed to 4000 feet +/- 200 feet below grade surface. The casing shall have an inside diameter greater than or equal to 3.9 inches.
