Western Region:

HI - To increase youth participation in the program new marketing techniques are going to implemented. Starting in Dec, visits to the units directly will be done on Mondays. By meeting directly with the units, I can answer any questions they may have about the program and to market one month out the event for the following month. I’m hoping that will raise the participation level by 30%. I have slowly started and have gotten 4 new participants at the last event.

KS – We are very excited about being part of the reaccreditation process taking place in Family Programs and what certification will mean for Youth Programs and our success going forward. Once again Kansas is going to be setting the standard for COA for all the 54 states and territories. It is an extensive and daunting task that we intend to tackle head on! New Students continue to join our Military Support Group each month and the children enjoy the look into their parents’ line of work as a Service Member.

It is very rewarding to see them leave excited to go home and share what they have learned with their family!

LA - At Fall Camp Lagniappe, there were two youth and a volunteer that are with the Texas National Guard. The OFP and LANG CYP have the reminder app for our military families. Dial 81010 and text @cypvol to receive details on upcoming volunteer opportunities. Dial 81010 and text @langcyp to receive details on our youth program to include upcoming camp information. Our CYP Face Book page has reached 1,299 "likes".

MN – A huge thanks to Wild Wings and Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Hugo network for putting on an awesome event for kids to learn a new skill and experience the great outdoors. My boys have never pheasant hunted and I think they fell in love with a new activity. They just didn't care too much for the cleaning part.... LOL!!

NM – This month we continued to work with our community partner the Carrie Tingley hospital foundation. Since 2009 they have had a Festival Of Trees. The Festival Of Trees is a event where Carrie Tingley invites the community to decorate a tree for their business, program and school. The Trees are all decorated in different themes. Then throughout the weekend the Foundation hosted an all-day event were all decorated trees are displayed and sold through a silent auction. All proceeds are donated to the Carrie Tingley foundation. It is a timely process to get decorations together but, luckily, we had a handful of families and youth that donated their time to help the program make decoration for the tree. Our theme this year was red, white and blue. I love this event because we host families throughout 2 weeks and decorate and get in the Christmas spirit. It is a great community outreach event.

OK - At our Yellow Ribbon Reintegration event this month, we had a 11-year-old boy who was registered with "developmental challenges". Once the program began it became quite clear that he had far greater needs including developmental, intellectual and sensory impairments. After meeting with his parents, we confirmed that his impairments were Tourette, ADHD and Autism. He needed one‐on‐one care and though it was quite challenging, our MFLC was available to give him that care. Child & Youth staff and volunteers divided and conquered, taking full care of the remaining attendees. It's quite a balancing act;

though we may not always have this outcome, the good news is that his parents (step‐mon is home raising one additional child) were able to stay in their pre‐deployment training and build relationship with other families, which they desperately needed. The training received from XXX this month came at a perfect time. While our goal is to treat and care for every child who comes into the program, we have more and more youth whose needs are over and above what our regular services can provide.

Being better educated and equally prepared, helps us meet that goal.

SD - The Military Kids Day in Rapid City was a success. We had a full roster with 20 youth and a day filled with canvas painting, making fleece hats for Veterans at the Cornerstone Rescue Mission, and "mindfulness" exercises with our MFLC.

WY - Our Veteran Appreciation event went well this year. Even though we only had 5 of our Teen Council members attend, they did a very important community service activity and learned from the Medal of Honor Curriculum. We spent the day making buttons for the Veterans at the American Legion, served ice cream, and even helped clean flags that were picked up from the cemetery. Then we watched several videos of MOH program and discussed how the traits of these recipients can apply to all of us. It was a small group, but had a huge impact.

Eastern Region:

FL: Eli Temple, YAC president and 18 year old Oakleaf High School Senior, was sworn into the Florida National Guard on 11/30

GA: New Partnership with The West End Community Urban Garden Provided the opportunity to support the objectives of our Dobbins Jets 4‐H Club by engaging club participants in Community gardening project activities that taught them gardening techniques and healthy food choices.

IN: After presenting a workshop session at the Indiana School Counselor's Association to a small but interested audience, many counselors expressed interest in the MKISS program for the upcoming school year.

KY: We are gearing up for our Operation Military Cheer Program and we are looking forward to helping our National Guard families.

MI: This month we were able to partner and host a Month of the Military Family Appreciation Night at District 5. We had 100% participation for the first time and it was a great night. We conducted a Family Programs briefing and gave families resources they can use. All families were very interested and we were also able to talk with each family and connect many families together. Also, I was able to visit the Upper Peninsula this month and visit two of our armories and school districts.

NH: I had a wonderful meeting with the Department of Education and will not only have the opportunity to present a training at their upcoming January Innovation Meeting, but have been asked to be their Keynote Speaker! I am thrilled about this opportunity to reach so many educators at one time to deliver an incredibly important message about Military Youth!

NC: When we hosted our November Triangle Teen Council event we also hosted a Virtual Teen Council meeting which allowed 3 other teens to participate. Our meeting focused on Habit 1 of 7 Habits of

Healthy Kids ‐ Habits and Effectiveness. By hosting Virtual Meetings, this will allow teens in other areas of the state to participate. We were also very blessed with to have our Community provide 68 Thanksgiving Dinners to our service members that were in need.

SC: SCNG Youth Outdoor program has had an unbelievable month in November. We have had many events with many memories made. The State and Community partners from South Carolina and North Carolina was magical. The volunteers that helped coordinate these events are off the charts. Jerome is transitioning in nicely and he is ready to go to Wisconsin for his MRT training.

TN: The Child and Youth Program was fortunate enough to attend the Regions Military Appreciation Day at the Nashville Zoo. This was a great opportunity to raise awareness within the community about the services the program offers. We made new contacts and are hopeful these families will participate in future CYP events!

VA: In an effort to strengthen the partnership between 4‐H and the National Guard, XXX presented 2 workshops at the Virginia Association of Adult 4‐H Volunteer Leaders 2016 Fall State Conference. The first highlighted the impact of the National Guard in the state and how the components of Family Programs function in support of the Guard family and local community.

The second workshop explored "maker" projects and educated adults on how "maker" projects can be used to education and connect military youth.

VI: This month Resiliency training was launched with much success. Training was conducted school based at St. Croix Educational Complex with partnership with JROTC program. It is expected to increase resiliency training over the next quarter. In addition, focus group with teen council members was conducted to improve programming to increase participation. VI has been conducting surveys with St.

Thomas/St. John service members and family members to gather information relevant to conducting programming in said district and to reduce perception of disparity between the district of St. Croix and St. Thomas/St. John. VI is also building community partnerships to increase opportunities for military connected youths. More success has been realized with face‐to‐face contact as cultural factors and nuisances hinders success via electronic or distance communication/interactions.
