Question 1: The solicitation includes the following statement in Section 21 entitled “Proposal Format”:
“Written proposals shall be prepared on standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper (charts may be landscaped but must be on 8.5 x 11 inch paper) and shall be in a legible font size (10)”
In some instances 11 x 17 foldouts are often used to present data. Examples include charts, schedules etc. Is the use of 11 x 17 pages acceptable?
Answer: Yes.
Question 2: During the walk through (bidder conference held June 24, 2009) several participants questioned or asked if this project is a “Repair” or a “Replacement” of the existing non-working suppression system. The ANG personnel acknowledge that they would discuss this with their architectural / engineering firm and provide us with this clarity. Please define if this project is to be proposed as a repair of replacement.
Answer: This is a new system.
Question 3: During the walk through (bidder conference held June 24, 2009) questions were asked regarding “Structural Steel Drawings”. How can we obtain Structural Steel Drawings?
Answer: Structural steel drawings for the PODs are not available.
Question number 4: There is no water supply indicated on the drawing. Are there pumps on the job (site)?
Answer: The supply is from a new high pressure fire main. No added pumps are required.
Question number 5: Please provide drawings with elevations.
Answer: No new drawings will be provided.
Question number 6: The job requires center of tile in the office areas. However there are no ceiling/lighting layouts, as such, we will need that drawing and/or documentation to provide this detail.
Answer: No new drawings will be provided.
Question number 7: FP102-0 references FP401 valve room equipment – we do not see this drawing package. Please provide this information.
Answer: Question is unclear. There is no reference to “FP401 valve room equipment” on FP 102. FP102 refers to a valve detail on FP401.
Question number 8: Do we have the E001 and E002 drawings? We do not have the drawing which shows Pods 1 through 3. Please provide this information.
Answer: See drawing E002.
Question number 9: Plan FP103 shows a 300-gallon Foam Concentrate tank and plan FP301 shows a 400-gallon Foam Solution tank which plan is correct?
Answer: The foam concentrate storage tank is designed to be 300 gallons as indicated on FP103 and FP 100. Drawing FP301 is incorrect and should note 300 gallons.
Question number 10: Valve schedule on plan FP301 calls for Viking J-1 Deluge valves; we believe this to be a mistake. Viking J-1 valves are wet alarm valves not Deluge Valves.
Answer: The design for Pilot Operating Deluge Valve is to use the Viking J-1 flow control valve with accessory trim as indicated in specification 13960-2.08. The J-1 valve with pre-installed trim is Viking model B-1.
The J-1 valve alone will not be sufficient, and should be supplied as per 13960-2.08 with the accessory trim.
Question number 11: Plan C501 plan calls for Bollard protection, but there are no Bollards shown anywhere on the plans. Are the Bollards for the fire hydrants and test headers?
Answer: The bollards are shown on sheet C101 in front of each fire hydrant (2 bollards at each hydrant). They shall be included as part of Option 1 only.
Question number 12: Pods 1& 2 fire suppression systems are supplied with Pre-charged 4” supply lines from the Foam Concentrate room thru the Deluge valves located within the HEF shelter. These Pre-charged lines will have concentrated solution within the piping system on the supply side of the Deluge valve. Within the specifications, Page 13960-11 section 2.06 calls for all pipe and fittings that are in contact with the Foam solution to be stainless steel. How do we address the Deluge valves (DV-1 & DV-2), surge tank and related fittings before the Deluge valve?
Answer: The pre-charged supply piping contains foam solution, not foam concentrate and shall conform to specification 13960-2.05 ABOVE GROUND PIPING HANDLING WATER OR FOAM SOLUTION. Stainless steel piping is not required for this section.
Question number 13: Plan FP401 section 4 illustrates a Typical Pit Detail. Are these pits new or existing? If new please identify areas of installation.
Answer: Pipe pit is new construction; see mechanical drawings for locations (see Note 40 on drawing FP201.) Prior to construction, the contractor shall field investigate the existing foundation to ensure provided pit details are compatible with the existing structure/foundation.
Question number 14: Plan M101 calls for new floor drains but don’t call for trap primers. Since the floor drains are connected to the sanitary waste system we feel the floor drains should have trap primers, please advise.
Answer: Trap primers are not part of the scope of work. Floor drains shall be of the deep seal type.
Question number 15: Has the additional piping and equipment load been verified that the existing steel will be able to handle the new load?
Answer: Piping and foam generators have been sized to minimize impact to existing structure and remain within acceptable limits. Any increase in pipe size and/or generator weight from the design as shown, has to be approved by the engineer.
Question number 16: Once the contract is awarded will the awarded contractor receive Architectural and reflected ceiling plans in CAD or will these plans have to be drawn by an Architect at the awarded contractor’s expense?
Answer: AutoCAD plans of the construction drawings will be made available to the contractor.
