No transiting or work can take place in the interstitial off the catwalks above any occupied area including corridors (see attached drawing 1-5I-A “FIFTH FLOOR INTERSTITIAL ARCHETECTURAL LAYOUT” for catwalk locations in the 5th floor interstitial superimposed over the rooms below). The VA can only commit to having 2 rooms vacated at any one time. Work can take place between 9:00 AM thru 11:00 PM, Saturdays thru Tuesday. Once work is completed over a two room area, staff will need to be informed and time given for

01 00 00 - 3 them to make the next 2 rooms available for work above.

3. Ductwork for fume hood

• The contractor will also be responsible for all proper cleaning of the fume hoods in order to render the hoods free of hazardous materials and ensure proper disposal. Contractor shall provide a decontamination and disposal plan.

• Demolition includes but is not limited to removal of asbestos containing materials, nonbearing partitions and finishes, concrete toping at exterior walkways, doors and hardware, aluminum storefront system and glazing, mechanical and plumbing systems and fixtures, equipment piping and ductwork, electrical power, lighting fixtures, signal devices, wiring and devices and all other items necessary to complete the construction.

• All ACM and/or Suspected ACM materials within the limits of work are required to be removed.

• Treatment and cleanup for containment of asbestos containing material on structural steel in interstitial areas, metal stud walls, drywall, plaster walls, vinyl floor tile with and without asbestos mastic, acoustical ceiling grid and tile, two hour fire rated solid gypsum board smoke ceilings above acoustical grid, mechanical ductwork, diffusers, controls, fire protection systems, 01 00 00 - 4 electrical power, Signal and lighting systems as identified by VA or hazardous material consultant.

• All existing pipe insulation and duct insulation within the limits of the project shall be replaced with new insulation and some of this existing insulation may have experienced asbestos overspray.

• This project will involve creating multiple penetrations and mechanical work on the new roof on the south wing of Building 1 for this project. The new roof currently has a 30 year warranty.

The Contractor will have to coordinate with Johns Manville to obtain all waivers etc. in order to do work on the roof so as not to void the current warranty. Contractor and or Subcontractors used for this feature of work must be a certified installer for Johns Manville roofing systems.

• Remodel will improve functional layout of spaces, eliminate underutilized or dead space, increase and improve storage access and capacities.

• Utility systems will be expanded and improved to adequately support newly built out space including storage and various offices and toilets. Project shall include implementation of all infection risk controls.

• Phasing will have to be implemented in order to provide uninterrupted utilities to the occupied half of the 6 South Wing during construction. The exhaust fans will have a lead time after submittal approval. Utility shutdowns such as air, gas, HVAC, lighting, power etc. will need to be coordinated with Research Service at least three weeks in advance first and will need to take place after normal working hours and/or on weekends. Exhaust ducts serving areas outside the scope of work will include two new exhaust fans on roof (EF 1-6.2 & 6.3) to pick up the existing exhaust ductwork.
