8 Topic: Environmental Drawing: N/A Section: USFWS Stockton Deep Water Ship Channel Biological Opinion (2023- 2028) Subpart: Giant Garter Snake

8.1 If the Contractor elects to utilize the Government

furnished upland sites, is the Contractor or Government responsible for hiring a biological monitor to survey the areas for Giant Garter Snake and other species of concern?

8.2 Question: Please confirm that Giant Garter Snake

fencing is not required.

8.1 Yes, the contractor is responsible for

hiring biological monitors to survey for special status species, including but not limited to, the Giant Garter Snake in upland placement sites.

8.2 According to the “Avoidance and

Minimization Measures” of the USFWS Biological Opinion that is referenced, fencing is required if Giant Garter Snake potential habitat is encountered during the Preconstruction (Pre-Dredge) Survey of each disposal site prior to preparation of the site.

This Preconstruction (Pre-Dredge) Survey would fulfill the Avoidance and Minimization Measure on page 16 of the Biological Opinion: “Biological surveys for the presence of GGS would be conducted by approved biologists prior to use at each DMPS, placement of bank slope protection, and road maintenance work".

QUESTIONS & RESPONSES

It is expected that during this Survey by an approved biologist, the need for fencing depending on the existing habitat can be determined.

9 Topic: Environmental Monitoring Drawing: N/A Section: The Fisheries Service (NMFS) Stockton Deep Water Ship Channel Biological Opinion (2016-2025) Subpart: 2.8.4 Terms and Conditions Specification Language: The Corps shall visually monitor the waterway adjacent to the dredge area (i.e., within 300 feet) during all dredging operations for any affected fish including, but not limited to, Sacramento River winter-run Chinook salmon, Central Valley spring-run Chinook salmon, California Central Valley steelhead, and the sDPS of North American green sturgeon.

party can perform the visual monitoring, pertaining to the requirements of the 1b. Terms and Conditions condition prefaced within the NMFS Biological Opinion.
