ADDENDUM NUMBER TWO (2)

Civil Engineering Maintenance and Fire Station Renovations W912L7-10-B-0002

Questions

1. Due to the difficulty in obtaining the plans and specifications will a bid date extension be allowed? Most of the subcontractors and suppliers were not aware of this project and we need additional time to get competitive pricing?

No, we will not be extending the date. “Time is of the essence” for this contract.

2. Is there an FAA or Base restriction on a crane boom height working that close to the flight line?

YES there are height restrictions. However, given the finish floor requirement for the project all equipment should be at least 100 feet +/- under restricted space. The general contractor will be required to coordinate the location and height with Memphis Shelby County Airport Authorities.

3. Will a top soil pile be allowed to remain during construction if we meet all erosion control requirements?

a) A small amount will be required to finish up the project and would allow us to save money from hauling additional top soil into the site.

YES, as long as all erosion control measures are followed and all work is kept within the designated limits of construction

4. Is an AISC certification required for the steel fabricator?

YES

a) If so can they bring in an outside inspector for final approval on this project?

YES

5. Civil Engineering Building – Covered Storage. The wall section, 2/CE-A5.03 does not show 2” rigid insulation in the wall cavity as the Fire Station details did. Was this intentionally left out, or should these details be consistent with the Fire Station? Please advise if 2” rigid insulation is required between the ground face CMU veneer and the CMU backup.

NO the exterior walls in the covered storage building (enclosed space #122) are not insulated.

6. Fire Station addition drawings detail 7 on sheet S3.02. This is a typical detail of a nonload bearing CMU wall. I cannot find where this condition occurs. Could you clarify if this detail is needed?

This particular detail is not required at the Fire Station Addition

7. Civil Engineering - Covered Storage. The corners of the building transition from 8” CMU to 12” CMU to create a pilaster. We can’t find anything in the structural drawings indicating the reinforcement requirements.

a) Do they fill solid or are they consistent with the adjacent wall with vertical reinforcement at 32” o.c.?

b) General note on Sheet S0.01, note #14 under “Reinforced Hollow CMU Notes” which talks about general reinforcement requirements of corners in general. But we assume these exterior 12” CMU corners will have special consideration.

Please clarify what the reinforcement requirements are for the 12” CMU corners for the Covered Storage.

See attached sketch of SK-S1 - TYPICAL CORNER DETAIL. This detail is hereby appended to CE-S0.01 & FS-S0.01.

8. Is acoustical fill needed on the Fire Station Addition?

NO

9. Is acoustical fill needed in the exterior walls at the BCE Training Facility?

NO

10. Do we need drip edge for all the thru-wall flashing, or just at the masonry openings (over and under doors/windows and under cast stone?

YES, all thru-wall flashing must have drip edge.

11. Will we need to provide infill and toothing for note 12 and 15 on FS A1.02 (Demolition Plan- Fire Station) NO, but exterior metal panel will need to be reconfigured and replaced in order to complete the exterior enclosure above the new roof. The remainder of existing wall to remain open under the new roof refer to Section 2/FS-A5.02.

12. Will we need to infill under and provide flashing (above) for the L2 Louvers on the Fire Station Addition above the apparatus room?

Refer to Sections 11/FS-A5.10 & 12/FS-A5.10. These head & sill details are applicable to louver type “L2”

13. Fire Station addition drawings indicate type “S” light fixtures in the new Apparatus Bay but there is no reference to that type of fixture.

See attached sketch SK-E1 - FIXTURE TYPE “S”. This detail is hereby appended to FSE5.02

14. Civil Engineering – Door Schedule. The “Door Types” on sheet CE-A5.30 list the E7 overhead door as a “Steel (Non-Insulated)”. The specifications indicate the door to be insulated. Which is correct?

Insulation will NOT be required of the two specific Door Types “E7” sectional overhead doors at space 122 only.

15. Drawing S0.01, under STEEL FRAMING NOTES, Item no. 2. last items noted.....Angles and Miscellaneous Steel ASTM 50. Can we get a clarification that this includes lintel angles, deck edge and deck bearing angles?.......and are the embed plates GR 50?

No Plates misc. steel and angles to be ASTM A36.

16. Drawing S3.02, Section 1 shows the anchor bolts for the main entrance columns to be 3/8" anchor bolts w/ 16" embed.

Anchor bolts shall be 3/4" dia.

17. Drawings S2.20 & S2.30 do not indicate any moment welded connections on the drawings, but Detail 9 on drawing S4.01 shows a detail for a moment connection @ a tube steel column and there is no detail for a moment connection @ WF columns......Will there be any moment connections required and if so, where are locations and a detail of the moment @ WF columns is needed.

There are no moment connections.

18. Drawing S2.20 shows a W18x35 beside stair no. 1, and spans from col line A to front canopy steel, it appears to connect into a W8x24, is this correct?

Yes, this is correct; the W18x35 connects to the W8x24.

19. Drawing S4.01 detail 21 Typical Hanger for mechanical units, will 2 hangers be required at each MAU ? Or will the heavier units require additional hangers?

The mechanical units shall have 4 hangers.

See Drawing SK-E1 and SK-S1
