AMENDMENT 0004

Questions and Answers:

The following questions and answers are provided for information only. Nothing contained below amends or revises any provision of the solicitation. This is for bidder’s reference only, and is not to be considered as a part of the Contract Documents. Contract award will be based on what is contained in the printed Plans and Specifications in a hard copy format or Electronic Bid Set if provided and as posted in Beta.Sam.

Q1. Specification SECTION 061000 - ROUGH CARPENTRY paragraph 2.01.A.1 calls for "Species: Douglas Fir- Larch, unless otherwise indicated.", paragraph 2.05.A.2 and 2.05.C calls for "Preservative Treatment". Drawing A- 111 Framing Materials Standards note 1 specifies “STRESS GRADED DOUG-FIR NO. 1…”. Drawing A-102 Note 2 states "ALL LUMBER ON PROJECT SHALL BE ACQ TREATED, INCLUDING WALL AND ROOF FRAMING." Preservative pressure treated (PT) Douglas Fir-Larch is a Pacific coast commodity, as well the wood must be incised prior to treatment. To bring in PT Douglas Fir-Larch from the west coast would be at a great expense to the gov't and is special order only. Please consider and advise if the substitution of PT Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) (an Atlantic coast commodity and readily available) for all framing lumber is acceptable?

A1. wall and roof framing do not have to be treated and can be douglas fir-larch common to the ny area. all sill plates and ledgers in contact with concrete or soil must be acq treated. syp is acceptable for these locations.

Q2. Specification SECTION 316615 - HELICAL FOUNDATIONS PILES paragraphs 1.07, 1.08, and 2.02 appears to call for the helical piles to be a contractor delegated design. Are contractors to bid and build the project based upon the helical piles specified in the Helical Screw Anchor Schedule on drawing S-102 or upon their own delegated helical pile design?

A2. THE HELICAL SCREW ANCHOR SCHEDULE IS FOR ESTIMATING PURPOSES ONLY (SEE NOTE 6 ON S-102). THE HELICAL PILE FOUNDATION ELEMENTS ARE A CONTRACTOR DELEGATED DESIGN ITEM. THE FINAL DESIGN SHALL BE DETERMINED BASED ON THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE HELICAL SCREW ANCHOR NOTES ON S-101 AND BOOK

SPECS.

Q3. Specification SECTION 316615 – HELICAL FOUNDATION PILES paragraph 2.03.A calls for all components to be hot dip galvanized. Drilled displacement (DD) helical piles, mark P2 and P3 on drawing S-102, are not supplied from the manufacturers as hot dip galvanized since they are encased in a significant grout column. Hot dip galvanized DD helical piles would be a special order item from the manufacturers and if additional extensions are required to increase the length beyond that specified it would require significant additional lead time. Please advise if DD helical piles mark P2 and P3 supplied bare is acceptable?

A3. HOT DIP GALVANIZING WAS SPECIFIED FOR CORROSION PROTECTION. USE OF BARE STEEL ENCASED IN GROUT AS AN ALTERNATE METHOD OF CORROSION PROTECTION IS SUBJECT TO APPROVAL BY THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALTERNATE PRICE FOR BARE STEEL WITHOUT HOT DIP

GALVANIZING.

Q4. Refer to drawings A-102 and A-104. What is the required total thickness of the ROXUL cavity insulation inside the 8’ high privacy wall around the generator?

A4. the stud wall is a 2" X 6" so 5 1/2" thick.

Q5. Refer to drawing A-108 Detail 2 Wall Section At Column. Please clarify:

a. How many layers of 5/8” Type X gypsum board are on the interior of the wall assembly?

b. How many layers of 5/8” sheathing is on the exterior of the wall assembly? The wall section depicts 2 layers, but calls out for “5/8” Type X exterior rated gypsum board slab to roof sheathing” and “(2) layers of 5/8” AQUA TOUGH exterior sheathing”.

A5. A and B - (2) layers of Type "X" gyp bd. at the interior (1) layer of 1/2" plywood and (2) layers of exterior 5/8" type "x" on the exterior. the exterior wall needs to be rated 2 hours.

Q6. Refer to drawings A-112. Wood Framing Note 1 states “All wood exterior walls will be constructed as shear walls: exterior sheathing with min 5/8” wood structural panels.” This is contrary to the that noted above and as shown on drawing A-108 Detail 2 Wall Section At Column. Please clarify.

A6. exterior wall assembly to include 5/8" plywood sheathing.

Q7. What’s the required anchorage/termination of the helical piles (both DD and non-DD) into the concrete grade bms and/or pile caps?

A7. REFER TO THE FOLLOWING TYPICAL DETAILS ON S-105 FOR PILE EMBEDMENT/TERMINATION DEPTH:

- TYPICAL PILE CAP & TIMBER COLUMN DETAIL

- TYPICAL PILE SUPPORTED GRADE BEAM DETAIL

Q8. Does the sub base fuel tank need to comply with the requirements of Suffolk County Department of Health? Normally SCDH is the AHJ for generator sub base fuel tanks in Suffolk County.

A8. The generator sub-base fuel tank needs to comply with the requirements of the Suffolk County Department of Health. In accordance with Specification Section 162000-1.1.A.10, the Contractor is required to obtain Inc.

Village of Ocean Beach approval for the generator and sub-base fuel tank installation.

Q9. Specification calls for spring vibration isolators. This is not required by the generator or tank manufacturer.

This is not required by local code. Using spring vibration isolators creates an air gap between the generator base and tank. We cover this gap with a plate, but it’s less than ideal. Please confirm if spring isolators are needed.

A9. Specification Section 26200-2.2.K requires spring vibration isolators for the generator, which is furnished as a unit with the sub-base fuel tank. Spring vibration isolators are not needed if they are not recommended by the generator manufacturer.
