Environmental Inspection
Rev. No. 1 Date valid 2012.01.18
Participants Location Attention(s): Date of Inspection
GC/EES: AKN
#98 20140205
Facility/location description:
The building is a three-story structure. The building was constructed in 1959. The building was constructed of prefabricated plywood aluminum panels (Clement Panels) attached to a wood frame. These panels consisted of a weatherproof outside layer of aluminum pressed plywood, mineral wool insulation, and a second layer of plywood and aluminum (twin building with build # 99).
Purpose of inspection:
Determine the possible presence of asbestos containing materials. The inspection and sample collection were performed by the in-house GC laboratory technician experienced with asbestos sampling and analysis. Some samples were analyzed in house other were sent for external analysis at EUROFINS in Denmark. The Base Astestos inventory were consulted to - according to ADAM: no information found.
All photos are taken by the in-house GC laboratory technician, including the microscopic analytical photos of the samples.
Conclusion: No asbestos containing materials were observed during inspection.
No. ITEM DESCRIPTION 1 Entrance to 1 floor
No samples were collected:
Several heat blowers were observed throughout the building, but they were believed produced later than 1986 and hence the were not expected to contain asbestos containing materials.
(this is by experience possible location to find asbestos containing materials).
2 2 floor wash room
The old heat system channel was inspected through the ventilation grille and no suspicious materials were observed and hence sampled (this is by experience possible location to find asbestos containing materials).
3 1 floor kitchen ventilation grille and no suspicious materials were observed and hence sampled (this is by experience possible candidates to be asbestos containing).
Access to the old flooring were found under the carpet and it were concluded that old floor tiles and tar were removed completely (this is by experience possible candidates to be asbestos containing).
Similar situation in building #99 1 floor kitchen.
No. ITEM DESCRIPTION 4 1 floor mech room
HW14-006
Fabric material Insulation material
Samples were taken as there was suspicion to possible asbestos containing materials (inspector experience).
Samples were microscope in house by the technician
These samples were sent to Eurofins in Denmark for analysis due to the unfamiliarity of the substance (black foam product) and the difficulties to comminute the fabric/insulation sample
All samples were found free of asbestos fibers when analyzed by Eurofins.
5 Stair case to 2 floor (Dundas end).
A hatch were observed and opened in order to inspect for asbestos containing materials.
There was no suspicion to possible asbestos containing materials when the hatch was inspected.
6 Stair case to 2 floor.
A hatch were observed and opened in order to inspect for asbestos containing materials.
There was no suspicion to possible asbestos containing materials when the hatch was inspected.
7 3 floor ventilation grille and no suspicious materials were observed.
8 Ceiling of the building
(round packed pipeline– insulation material like Rock woll)
(square-packed pipeline- insulation material like Rock woll)
Samples were taken as there was suspicion to possible asbestos containing materials (inspector experience).
Samples were microscope in house by the technician
The samples did not show asbestos fibers when microscope by the in house technician.
