48. Question: Refer to Specification Section 08 56 46.10 20.
A. Identify the exact quantity of signal lines entering each RF enclosure.
B. A modular demountable shielding system is requested per the documents. Typically RF performance is 10-18GHz at 100dB. Paragraph 2.1.1.a1 radio Frequency Interference Attenuation is 100dB from 1KHz to 40GHz. The modular shielding system was not designed for this. If a change in RF doors (from single knife edge door to double knife edge door) and honey comb air vents will be (from 3/16 to 1/8 cells) required. 100dB to 10GHz is typical for the system described. Please clarify.
C. In paragraph 3.10 Field Testing. SELDS testing is called out. SELDS testing is not normally called out for testing modular cell type shielding systems. SELDS is the recommended way of testing welded systems. Verify the testing method. Industry standard for RF shielding systems is MIL-STD-285 (Suspended but still used) or
IEEE299.
A. Identify quantity of signal lines entering each RF enclosure: Provide filtering capable of supporting four single lines with provision for a 1” threaded conduit hub penetration of shielded enclosure.
B. System performance: Basis of design is ETS Lindgren series 81 shielding systems or equivalent.
Magnetic Field: 20dB @ 1kHz; 56dB @ 10kHz; 100dB @ 200kHz
Electric Field: 110dB from 200kHz through 50MHz
Plane Wave: 110dB from 50MHz to 1GHz
Microwave: 100dB @ 10GHz
C. Section 3.10 Fielding Test: Comply with IEE299 (as applicable to canceled MIL-
STD285 which is client standard)
49. Question:
A. I found one item of concern on spec section 08 56 46.10 20 page 5 section 2.1.1 paragraph A item #1. 100dB at 1 KHz is acceptable for electric and microwave but not at a magnetic. Typically for the room type specified the performance at 1 KHz magnetic is about 20dB graduating up to 100dB around 200 KHz. I do not believe IEEE-299 required 100dB at 1 KHz magnetic in any case.
B. I highly suggest that the filters shown on drawing 2E-401 be mounted on the shield not the parent room wall. Access thru the parent room wall via a door of some sort.
C. On drawing 2E-401 elevation A4 there are typically three filters one for lighting and
2 for outlets. Actually three separate filters side by side. Elevation seems to show a larger 9” wide filter for the 2 power circuits.
D. I suggest the elimination of the parent room wall between the rooms. Also, the front wall is not installed until after the 3 shield rooms are finished so perfect alignment of the non shielded exterior door can take place as well as the opening for the filters.
E. Please note there is a gap of about 1” between the parent room interior wall and the exterior of the RF shielded wall that can be seen at the door frame edges. You may want to close it up after the parent room wall is in place.
A. Shielded Room System performance: Basis of design is ETS Lindgren series 81 shielding systems or equivalent.
Magnetic Field: 20dB @ 1kHz; 56dB @ 10kHz; 100dB @ 200kHz
Electric Field: 110dB from 200kHz through 50MHz
Plane Wave: 110dB from 50MHz to 1GHz
Microwave: 100dB @ 10GHz
B. Concur; filters shall be mounted on the shield enclosure wall. Corridor outer masonry wall shall be fire rated. Provide intermediate fire rated NEMA-1 enclosure that is mounted to the shield wall to house the filters. Enclosure cover may be either door construction or gasket removable panel.
