About this file
This document outlines the requirements for a sound masking system installation project. The project involves installing sound masking speakers, amplifiers, a noise generator, wiring and other components in a medical facility to provide acoustic privacy. Key specifications include the components must be non-proprietary, utilize current operating systems, and integrate with the facility's paging and notification systems. The system must meet standards for open office acoustics and be compatible with existing IT infrastructure. Installers must have 5 years experience and be able to train facility staff. Quotes are due by January 8, 2020 with the project taking place at Eglin Air Force Base. The solicitation is set aside for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses.

GENERAL
This Performance Specification (PS) specifies the installation and quality of sound masking systems.
Note: A typical sound masking system consists of a network of speakers and amplifiers connected to a noise generator to raise the ambient noise level of a space to minimize audible distraction and provide privacy by masking intrusive speech. The noise generator typically provides pink noise, centered on the frequency of human speech, making indirect speech unintelligible. Real property, including raceway, cable tray, junction boxes, etc. are addressed in their respective UFGS sections and not included in this specification.
