An operator must be sized to operate the associated valve for the full range of pressures and velocities, see Section 35 05 40.00 25, HYDRAULIC POWER SYSTEMS FOR CIVIL WORKS STRUCTURES for hydraulic cylinder requirements.

2.4.2 Valve Schedule

Submit valve product data including, but not limited to, valve manufacturer's catalog cuts, a list of valve materials, pressure ratings, dimensional drawings of each valve size, and reference identification as indicated. Provide a list of any special tools necessary for each valve type and appurtenances furnished for adjustment, operation, maintenance and disassembly.

2.4.3 Knife Gate Valves

Provide nine new knife gate valves that will replace the existing ball valves at each fish horn intake. Knife gate valves must conform to the following:

a. Knife gate valves must be of full flange flat face to face design per MSS SP-81. Flanges must be flat face. Valve must have threaded flange bolt holes to permit independent upstream or downstream pipe flange removal without effecting the shutoff or body shell pressure rating of the valve. The body shell pressure rating and the shutoff pressure rating must be 150 psig.

b. Valve body must be cast stainless steel per ASTM A351/A351M, grade CF8M. Valve gate must be stainless steel per ASTM A240/A240M, type

316. Both faces and edges of the valve gate must have a 43 microinch surface texture or better.

c. Valves must be furnished with a resilient seat which seals around the edge, not the face of the gate, and must be replaceable and mechanically retained without the use of adhesives. Resilient seat must be Viton. Valve must also have a secondary metal seat to provide gate support and must withstand the full rated pressure in either direction.

d. The top gate seal must be fully enclosed and must be re-packable with the valve in service under fully rated pressure and without the removal of packing gland or follower. This seal must be capable of resealing by means of injection of packing material into the seal chamber through external ports located at a minimum of four locations to insure even pressure and packing material distribution. The top seal must be protected by glass filled phenolic scraper blades. The scraper blades must be pressed into the gate by means of mechanically retained rubber backing cord.

e. The actuator support structure of the valve must be 4 solid posts of stainless steel. The valve yoke must be of sufficient strength to

40 05 13.00 25-9 withstand five times the maximum operating thrust required for the valve to operate.

f. The valve must be operated by a hydraulic cylinder. See Section 35 05 40.00 25, HYDRAULIC POWER SYSTEMS FOR CIVIL WORKS STRUCTURES for hydraulic cylinder requirements. Valve manufacturer must coordinate with hydraulic cylinder manufacturer in order to ensure proper connection and operation once assembled. The intent is for the hydraulic power system manufacturer to also manufacture the hydraulic cylinders due to the special nature of hydraulic cylinders designed for water based fluid service.

g. The valves must be suitable to continuous submergence in up to 120 feet of water. Valves will actually be submerged as the reservoir level rises, so the valves must not be effected by submerged/dry cycles. Valves must be able to be able to be mounted in the orientations as shown in the drawings.

2.5 MISCELLANEOUS PIPING COMPONENTS

2.5.1 Indicating Devices

2.5.1.1 Temperature Sensors

Temperature sensors must be submersible in up to 150 feet of water and must have a sensing range of at least -20 degrees F to 120 degrees F.

Temperature sensors must output a 4-20 mA signal and must be provided with a sufficient length of marine grade cable. An example of a temperature sensor meeting these requirements is the 270-WQ101 Submersible Temperature Sensor by NovaLynx. Submit temperature sensor product data for approval prior to procurement. Design a holder for the temperature sensor that will keep the sensor in place and offer some measure of protection from debris.

Construct the holder out stainless steel. The holder must have holes or slots in order to facilitate water flow to and around the sensor. Attach one holder onto an interior wall of each valve vault at the same elevation as the centerline of the fish horn pipes by means of stainless steel expansion-type concrete anchors. Install one temperature sensor in each holder.

2.6 PIPE SUPPORTS AND PENETRATIONS

Provide auxiliary steel where the support of piping systems and equipment is required between building structural elements. Light gauge and structural steel shapes must conform to the requirements of ASTM A36/A36M.

The Contractor has the option to use pre-engineered support systems of hot dipped galvanized, or stainless steel products. However, a mixture of support system manufacturers products is not permitted. Where auxiliary steel is indicated as stainless steel, provide type 304 stainless steel conforming to ASTM A240/A240M.

2.6.1 Pipe Supports

Provide new pipe supports in the fish horn valve vaults. Pipe supports must be adjustable saddle-type supports. Pipe supports must be eaither hot dipped galvanized or made of 304 stainless steel. Where dissimilar metals would be in contact, provide an insulating material such as UHMW polyethylene between the dissimilar metals.

3.3.7 Pipe Tap Connections

Taps to pipe barrels are unacceptable. Taps to ductile iron piping must be made only with a service saddle or at a tapping boss of a fitting, valve body, or equipment casting. Taps to steel piping must be made only with a welded threadolet connection.

3.4 BURIED PIPE PLACEMENT

3.4.1 Thrust Restraint

Thrust restraint devices are generally not shown in the Contract drawings;

their absence must not relieve Contractor of the responsibility for providing them as required to provide complete systems for the use intended. Provide thrust blocks and ties where required, whether or not shown on the Contract drawings. At a minimum, thrust restraint must be provided at pipeline tees, plugs, caps, bends, and other locations where unbalanced forces exist.

3.5 CONNECTING DISSIMILAR PIPE

Flexible transition couplings, dielectric fittings and isolation joints must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

3.6 EXTERNAL CORROSION PROTECTION

Flanged faces must be cleaned prior to inserting the gasket and bolts, and then the nuts must be tightened progressively and uniformly. Threaded ends must have the threads cleaned by wire brushing or swabbing prior to installation.

3.7.1 Valve Orientation

Valves must be oriented as shown on the drawings or otherwise as needed to fit within the existing valve boxes.

3.8 PIPING SUPPORT SYSTEMS INSTALLATION

The absence of pipe supports and details on the Contract drawings must not relieve the Contractor of responsibility for sizing and providing supports throughout plant.

3.8.1 General Support Requirements

Pipe support systems must meet the requirements of MSS SP-58.

Contractor-designed and selected support systems must be installed in accordance with MSS SP-69, and as specified herein. Piping connections to equipment must be supported by pipe supports and not off the equipment.

Large or heavy valves, fittings, and/or equipment must be supported independently of associated piping. Pipes must not be supported off other pipes. Supports must be provided at piping changes in direction or in elevation, adjacent to flexible joints and couplings, and where otherwise shown on the Contract drawings. Pipe supports and hangers must not be installed in equipment access areas or bridge crane runs. Hanging pipes must be braced against horizontal movement by both longitudinal and lateral sway bracing. At each channel type support, every pipe must be provided with an intermediate pipe guide, except where pipe anchors are required.

Existing support systems may be used to support additional new piping only if the Contractor can demonstrate that the existing support systems are adequate for the additional loads, or if the existing systems are strengthened to support the additional loads. Pedestal type pipe supports must be provided under base flanges adjacent to rotating equipment and where required to isolate vibration.

3.8.2 Dielectric Barriers

Dielectric barriers must be installed between supports and copper or stainless steel piping, and between stainless steel supports and non-stainless steel ferrous piping.

3.8.3 Support Methods

Piping support must be provided as specified and as shown.

40 05 13.00 25-14

3.9 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

3.9.1 Pipe Leakage Tests

Unless approved by the CO, leakage testing must be conducted after the fish facility is placed in operation at the start of the fish collection season, as determined by the Government. The Fish Facility Water Supply discharge pipes joints will be observed when the pipes are operating normally. If leaks are observed, the Contractor must be responsible for addressing the problem and stopping the leak.

3.9.2 Valve Testing

Submit copies of all field test reports within 24 hours of the completion of the test. Valves may either be tested while testing pipelines, or as a separate step. It must be demonstrated that valves open and close smoothly with operating pressure on one side and atmospheric pressure on the other.

Depending on the reservoir level, this may not be possible at all intake elevations. At a minimum, each fish horn valve must be operated from full-closed to full-open, and back to full closed. Record the time required to open and close each valve, and account for any discrepancies with manufacturer's data.

3.10 CLEANING

Prevent the accumulation of weld rod, weld spatter, pipe cuttings and filings, gravel, cleaning rags, oil, grease, and other foreign material within piping sections during fabrication. Thoroughly clean the interior of all piping prior to field assembly. The piping must be examined to assure removal of these and other foreign objects prior to assembly and installation.

3.11 MANUFACTURER'S FIELD SERVICES

Submit a signed statement certifying that the installation is satisfactory and in accordance with the Contract drawings and specifications and the manufacturer's prescribed procedures and techniques, upon completion of the project and before final acceptance. Obtain manufacturer's technical assistance for Contractor training, installation inspection, start up, and owner operating and maintenance training. Follow manufacturer's instructions for installation.

3.12 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

Submit operation and maintenance data per Section 01 78 23.00 25, OPERATION

AND MAINTENANCE DATA.
