3.2.2 Application of Prime Coat and Troweling

Combine the epoxy binder components A and B in the proportions specified by the manufacturer to form a clear compatible system immediately on mixing.

Cure combined components to a clear film possessing a glossy, non-greasy surface at relative humidities less than 80 percent, having the following properties after curing 24 hours at 77 degrees F, followed by 24 hours at 125 degrees F:

Ensure prepared subfloor surface is dry and at a temperature of not less than 60 degrees F when application of the floor topping is initiated.

Immediately prior to application of the prime/scratch coat on the prepared surface, remove dust or other loose particles by blowing with compressed air or vacuum cleaned. Use only an air compressor equipped with an efficient oil-water trap to prevent oil contamination or wetting of surface.

System Primer: Standard Primer at 6 mils WFT.

Base Coat: High Performance CR Epoxy – Pigmented at 6-8 mils DFT.

Chip Broadcast (full broadcast): Vinyl Chip (Blend) at 100lbs/1000sf.

Seal Coat: Water-Based Polyurethane at 4-5 mils DFT.

Ensure any surface imperfections are corrected prior to placing the coating.

A 100 percent solids, zero VOC primer is recommended. The solid colored base coat, High Performance CR Epoxy-Pigmented is to be applied at 250 to 300 square feet per gallon after the primer is tacky. Vinyl paint chips are to be fully broadcast into the wet epoxy at about 100 pounds per 1000 square feet.

After the epoxy has set and is tack-free, sweep the floor to remove any loose chips. The full broadcast requires a clear topcoat of Water-Based Polyurethane. The Water-based Polyurethane is applied at 300-400 square feet per gallon.
