Solicitation No. W911XK-10-B-0004 Fox River Walkway
Questions & Answers As of: 6 Jul 2010
1. QUESTION: Does the USACE really want AISC certification for the steel on this project, as this is an added expense, and if we do what type building, structural, bridge?
1. ANSWER: The walkways are required to be fabricated by an AISC Certified Plant. The walkways would be considered bridges.
2. QUESTION: Some of the details state that they are conceptual and he is wondering if these are similar to design build type.
2. ANSWER: By conceptual, the walkway section was shown to illustrate required elements: 42" high 2" Dia. Sch 40 handrailing, 6" high kick plates, steel grating designed to the tolerances in the loading table and a minimum of 2 support girders.
In Section 05 12 00, Sec 2.1, it is required that the support girders be of W Shape, S Shape, MC Shape or C Shape. Trusses or joists are not allowed as the primary superstructure support members. Sizes were not shown and must be sized per the loading table. The intention of this conceptual drawing was to provide some freedom to the contractor as to the final design. It was anticipated that the walkways over the spillways would be similar to the existing galvanized walkways over the gates. However, this is not required.
